Planning for All Students (100% Meetings)
Purpose of meeting: To evaluate and review the effectiveness of core instruction and make adjustments at the grade level that meet the needs of all students. The stronger the core programming, the less support students will need through interventions. Evaluation includes a close look at instruction, curriculum, and environment and leads to a collaborative approach to planning in addition to a culture of continuous improvement and commitment to ALL students.
Team members: Principal, Classroom teacher(s), Title I teacher, Resource Room teacher, ELD teacher, speech and language pathologists, and counselors
Three times a year, in fall, winter and spring, RtIi teams review data on student performance (e.g., DIBELS benchmark and progress monitoring, diagnostic data) in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the core programs. Disaggregated data must be used to ensure the needs of all student groups are being analyzed. The model is predicated on the notion that all students can make adequate growth and that core programs should meet the needs of at least 80% of all students. If this is not the case, the team should strategize ways to shore up the core. This means the School-wide Team must examine Core Programs and instruction, and foster honest conversations about whether the core is meeting the needs of 80% of all student populations. The team should then plan prevention/intervention activities that target areas in core instruction which data analysis suggests need attention (e.g., professional development, effective curriculum implementation, re-teaching of basic skills, re-teaching school rules and expectations consistently, etc.). It is vital to have the building principal on the team to ensure that fundamental organizational and resource decisions can be made, resources can be allocated, instructional delivery is effective, and the core program is delivered with fidelity. Fidelity checks should be conducted as part of this process, using the Journeys Look For Document.
