Scholarships
BHS Scholarship Program
Scholarships can fall into three categories: national, local, and school specific opportunities.
National Scholarships:
These are best found by searching the internet using reputable websites and search databases including (but not limited to):
Sallie Mae Scholarship Search via student’s Naviance Account.
Local Scholarships:
Many local organizations give back to our community and support seniors furthering their education and careers. These opportunities are available to students attending colleges and universities, technical trade schools, and even serving in the Armed Forces. This is the primary way students receive additional money for school.
Important Instructions for Local Scholarships:
Seniors (and families) will receive email updates as new scholarships are available. Students (only) will be able to access the Scholarship Offerings Google Doc which will be updated with all current offerings. This must be accessed through their school google account.
This Google doc will provide all necessary deadlines and instructions for processing/submitting.
Many local scholarships require processing and final submission by BHS to include transcript, LORs, etc., which we will provide on the student’s behalf.
Students will submit the completed application to the College & Career Center digitally as a pdf via email for final processing 10 days prior to the final scholarship deadline unless indicated. The spreadsheet will have the student deadline clearly stated.
The LORs on file in Naviance for the college applications can be used for scholarships unless a specific letter is required by the scholarship.
All scholarships must be submitted to the CCC digitally by uploading them using the Scholarship Submission Form for final processing/submission unless otherwise indicated.
LATE APPLICATIONS (AFTER THE PROCESSING DEADLINE) WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
School-Specific Scholarships:
Once a student selects their college of choice they should visit the financial aid section on their website to look for additional scholarships available. These scholarships are solely for students that will be enrolled at that institution.
Submitting Documents and Tech Information:
Applications will come in a variety of formats. Most will be either Google Docs or PDF files. Here’s what you need to do:
Google Doc:
Make a copy of the google doc, then complete the application.
Save/download as a PDF file using format: LastName.ScholarshipName.pdf
Submit your application using the Scholarship Submission Form.
PDF File:
Open in Google Drive and use “open with Google Docs”. It will then create a copy for you to rename and edit, then complete the application.
Save/download as a PDF file again using format: LastName.ScholarshipName.pdf
Submit your application using the Scholarship Submission Form.
Helpful Tools:
Students always have the option to print applications, complete by hand and then scan as a pdf for final submission.
Students can visit the CCC for assistance with printing/scanning documents
Google Read & Write chrome extension can be used to edit documents.
