Course Description: This college preparatory course is a survey of all the basic areas of biology required by the Next Generation Science Standards. Students will be expected to utilize the Science and Engineering Practices to learn the topics of cellular structure and function, matter and energy, inheritance and variation of traits, evolution and natural selection, and biodiversity and human impacts. Students will use labs along with hands-on activities to generate new learning. This course meets NCAA initial-eligibility certification.


Digital Biology

908105 1 Credit Full Year College Prep

Prerequisite: Students interested in both science and technology

Open to: Grade 9

Course Description: Digital Biology covers all of the basic areas of biology required by the Next Generation Science Standards. It is a lab-intensive science course that incorporates technology on a daily basis while covering the same topics as Biology 12 and Biology 11. Students electing to take this course should be willing to work independently and should enjoy using technology on a daily basis. As a requirement of the course, students must contribute to the creation of a class project then subsequently attend the Bethel STEAM Night to present their project to the public. This course meets NCAA initial-eligibility certification.


Biology 11H

Prerequisite: Middle school science teacher recommendation

Open to: Grade 9

Course Description: This honors level course is a survey of all the basic areas of biology required by the Next Generation Science Standards. Students will be expected to utilize the Science and Engineering Practices to learn the topics of cellular structure and function, matter and energy, inheritance and variation of traits, evolution and natural selection, and biodiversity and human impacts. Students will use labs along with hands-on activities to generate new learning. This class is faster paced and will cover additional material beyond what is covered in Biology 12. This course meets NCAA initial-eligibility certification.


AP Biology

908115 1.2 Credits Full Year Advanced Placement

Prerequisite: Minimum B+ in Biology 11H or A- in Biology 12, and minimum B+ in Chemistry 21, or A- in Chemistry 22

Open to: Students meeting prerequisites

Course Description: This class is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course, usually taken by science majors as an undergraduate. An Advanced Placement exam grade of 4 or 5 may fulfill a basic science requirement for a college laboratory course. The AP Biology course and exam encompass theories and processes governing living organisms and biological systems. Each student enrolled in the course is required to take the AP Biology exam in the spring. This course meets NCAA initial-eligibility certification.
