Intro to 2D Art students

Break the Border Watercolor Painting

Students in Painting class learned how to use tube watercolor paints and also learned 9 different watercolor techniques using things like salt, rubbing alcohol, plastic wrap and oil pastel. 

The focus for this painting was to create a composition of their choice, and have one (or more) of those images “breaking the border” of their painting. They had the option of using pencil or sharpie to add texture and details.

Fractured Values Drawings

The Intro to 2D Art students created an image that is “fractured” by lines or shapes. Each shape was then shaded using drawing pencils. The goal was for each shape to act like its own value scale (darks, mediums and lights). In addition, similar values were not allowed to touch. This challenge was an opportunity for students to practice shading for future projects and it also had them thinking about a large range of value they can produce in one drawing.
