Thank you to those who completed the survey. I learned valuable information that I have already tried to implement, change, or they exist in sticky note form on my desk (they will get done!). I always want to be responsive to your thoughts and feedback.
I learned the 90 Day Plan might not be as clearly communicated as it should be. The 90 Day Plan guides where our money is spent, and what we are doing each and every day in the classroom. The 90 Day Plan is available to each of you on this website, and I also added the presentation I gave to the school board about the plan, and how we will accomplish our goals, which include: academic language, SAVVAS math training, hands-on experiences/activities, after school tutoring, being culturally responsive, and more . . . check it out!
And I heard you! We need to communicate more what is occurring in our leadership team and data team meetings. We use those opportunities to improve our school, and we want everyone to feel they know what is occurring in those meetings.
I see that some of you believe you do not have meaningful leadership and professional learning opportunities--if I see something, I will definitely pass it along. If you see something, let me know, and I'll do my best to make sure you have the opportunity to learn and grow!
And, I see....we have 100% agreement we are ready for any emergency!! Thanks Amanda & Greg!
And....believe me....I know! Lunch time duties have been a struggle. It was suggested to move teachers into those positions, and that is not something that is okay with me. Teachers need/required to have a duty-free lunch. We have added some of our specials teachers to the rotations when they are available, and our new ELP teacher will have lunchroom duty as well. It is a work in progress (especially when we seem to always be short staffed...working on it).
There was a question about Keres class as well. Since our school is not on pueblo land, Keres is optional. Parents can opt their student out if they do not wish them to participate, otherwise, if they are a San Felipe student, that are required to attend. It is amazing to have this program at our school, and I'm grateful to Ms. Ethel & Ms. Laura who encourage, advocate, and build confidence in our students with their native language!
Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!! I value your advice and input, and many heads are better than one!!
Please sign up to help serve chili, salad, and deserts to our families! If you could give a healping hand, we would greatly appreciate it. Students will be served first, and families will be served second. Families will be able to purchase tickets before the event (November 7th will be their last day to purchase tickets). We served over 200 parents last year, now add students and staff...!!!! It will be a busy day! PreK and Kindergarten will eat at 11:00 AM, 1st Grade/Second Grade (Jaramillo) will eat at 11:45, 2nd Grade (Spina)-Third Grade at 12:20 PM.
Staff Shout Outs!
Thank you to Myra, Diana, Isabella, and Larry who helped with the Harvest Festival at the High School. It was a looonnnngggg day, but fun was had by all! And, we got Frito pie!
Thank you to Mr. Yuan who when asked at the last minute, gleefully volunteered our choir for the Harvest Festival! We were the only school that made it happen. The students sang wonderfully! Thank you Mr. Yuan for going above and beyond.
Thank you to Mr. Jaramillo who helped out with students during the rehearsal for the festival on Friday afternoon. It made the biggest difference!
Thank you to our Special Education EA's who are always up for a schedule change as we try to get it perfect in doing what is right for the students we serve! 🤪
Welcome to Francine Sanchez who will be our new ELP teacher!! We are excited for her to join our team.
Congratulations to Olivia Perez on her new position!! (I didn't know that when I asked Matt about having her do her internship hours at AES, that he would suggest having her fill the Assistant Principal shoes at Cochiti!...Just completing my own internship, I know this is a wonderful opportunity for her, one she couldn't pass up, but we will miss her.)
Thank you to Ms. Sharon who continues to be the front line for parents, absent students, and representing our school so well. Who could come in Algodones and not think good things about our school with her as the first person they meet?!! Thank you Sharon!!
Thank you to Lorrieann and Mary S. who are gearing us up for a great Red Ribbon Week--from the planning of activities to the cool bulletin board--we are ready to promote a healthy lifestyle! Thank you!!
Remember if you have someone who has gone above & beyond-send me an email, and I'll make sure to recognize them in the next staff bulletin.

Mustang Store (repeat)--if you could add Lorrieann as well to your Class Dojo, that would be great, so there will be more store clerks available to check students out. We are going to tentatively try to have the Mustang Store during recesses...but it will depend on our lunch/recess coverage on Friday (we are working on it).
Student of the Week (repeat)
Don’t forget to submit your Student of the Week—someone who has been kind to peers, helpful, and a positive influence. Let’s celebrate those everyday heroes in our classrooms! The google sheet is in our shared google drive. Students will be called to the office each Friday morning after announcements.
Thank you again for the thoughtful engagement during our recent PD on Academic Monitoring - and then the very next day to take Gwen to Mrs. Uhl's class and Mrs. Uhl pulls out her academic monitoring tracker....mic drop.
I wanted to follow up with a few reminders and supports as we continue strengthening classroom engagement and feedback.
One of the main takeaways from the training was the importance of being intentional: What are we looking for, and why? Academic Monitoring is most effective when we narrow the focus to the highest-leverage skill for that day’s learning. We don’t need to monitor everything—just the one or two indicators that show whether students are actually learning the targeted outcome. That was my biggest fear when learning about academic monitoring was how could she just move so quickly from student to student without making sure what they didn't learn was retaught--what I have learned is the need to narrow the focus of what I'll be looking for each time I take a lap around my classroom (poo, I don't have a classroom ). What will be the one thing I will look for each time?
A few reminders as you continue this work:
Be clear on today’s success criteria – What should students be able to do by the end of the lesson?
Monitor with purpose – Look specifically for evidence tied to the learning goal.
Provide in-the-moment feedback – quick corrections, prompts, or affirmations as you circulate.
Keep engagement universal – Ask yourself:
Is every student engaged?
Does every student have an opportunity to respond or show their thinking?
Academic Monitoring is not just about walking the room — it’s about capturing student thinking in real time and ensuring that all students, not just the eager few, have access to learning and teacher feedback.
Thank you for your commitment to strong Tier 1 instruction and for continuing to grow in practices that make learning visible for all students.
Thursday, November 20th, Algodones will be hosting a Turkey Bingo! The letter shared to the right can be used to help reach out to businesses for donations. Our goal is to give 16 families a basket for a Thanksgiving Feast!
We would love to have families and staff donate as well. We are asking each grade level to donate the following items:
Pre-K-Box of Stuffing
Kindergarten-Gravy (packet or jars), Potatoes
First-Rolls, Juice
Second-Pre-Maid Pies
Third-Canned Vegetables, Marshmallows, Aluminum Pans for Roasting
No rationing here!! 🤪Please use the following form to update the number of workbooks you still need for this school year!
At the Staff Meeting coming up on October 28th, we will have RAVE training, and then anyone who needs additional assistance with Step 2 (Blue Form-Documenting Initial Support) or Step 3 (Yellow Form-Progress Monitoring), I will be there to answer questions. We knew there would be hiccups, and already one has been discovered. With our progress monitoring form, it was difficult to put in behavior vs. academic supports. The district has created two forms now. The teacher will progress monitor academic supports, and the Health and Wellness Team will progress monitor behavior. The new forms are attached to our form on the left.
Also, when these new forms were created and sent to ALL the schools, it stated: "Only Algodones looks close to being able to potentially need these any time soon....." Y'all are AWESOME!! We are the furthest along on implementing the new MLSS documents. You ROCK!!
Red Ribbon Week is important because it brings students,
families, and schools together to promote healthy choices and a drug-free lifestyle. The movement began in 1985 in honor of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who lost his life while fighting drug trafficking. Communities across the country began wearing red ribbons to raise awareness and stand united against drug use, and it eventually grew into a nationwide prevention campaign. Today, Red Ribbon Week gives students a chance to learn about making safe, healthy decisions, while also opening the door for meaningful conversations at home. By participating as a community, we send a strong message that our students’ futures matter and that we are all working together to support their health and success.

Thank you to everyone who made Signe & Freja feel so welcomed on our campus. You are inspiring the next generation of teachers! So, what is the difference between Denmark & the USA? Color! They loved all the colorful decorations, student work, posters, etc., in Denmark everything is much more monochrome and sterile. They also said that all teachers are called by their first names, no Ms. or Mr. before saying their name. They said while that might seem less formal, teachers in the USA care more about their students and knowing each one individually. The relationships you are making with your students could be seen!
Thank you for helping honor your students on Friday. I know each student had a lot of fun. Friday was an amazing day from free shoes, toothbrushes, books, etc (thanks to KRQE) to our Quarter 1 celebration! It was a great day!
Remember if you have someone who has gone above & beyond-send me an email, and I'll make sure to recognize them in the next staff bulletin.

October 29th--Data Team Mtg.
October 30th--Picture Retakes & Lockdown Drill @ 11 AM
October 31st--Trunk or Treat 9:30 AM, Third Grade will go first.
Feedback Needed--if you could send me a list of students who you would love to have at tutoring, but for some reason they could not attend (San Felipe students only), that would be great. Karla, the education director from the San Felipe Pueblo, would like to help us out with that. Question--do we encourage students to log in to Amira & IStation at home? Karla would love to help students log in and continue to practice at the library, but I didn't know if that is something we encourage.
Harvest Festival is this Saturday, October 25th at the high school. Teachers are not required to attend or help in any way!! But, Mr. Larry, Ms. Mayra, and I would LOVE for you to visit our booth. We are making pumpkin trebuchets on a smaller scale and launching candy corn into a cup pyramid. You can see if your skillz in launching, accuracy, speed, and Newton's Laws make you a winner!! ha! Our students will also be performing at 10:30 AM. (That means a rehearsal is needed from 2:20-3:20 pm Friday in the gym. Please make an allowance for that in our Friday schedule.)
Our Trunk or Treat would love local businesses to help out with more 'trunks'. If you know a business who would benefit from advertisement and a chance to meet and greet with our school community, we would love to have them.
Mustang Store--if you could add Lorrieann as well to your Class Dojo, that would be great, so there will be more store clerks available to check students out. We are going to tentatively try to have the Mustang Store during recesses...but it will depend on our lunch/recess coverage on Friday (we are working on it).
And...we have a date for our Turkey Bingo Night, Thursday, November 20th!

Then, we will head to lunch!! That afternoon we will meet at SLA for Just Right Reader training-1:30 K-2, 2:30 3rd grade. Dinner will be served (from the Range)!
Fall Festival (repeat)
Our Fall Festival will be on Tuesday, October 21st from 5:00-6:30 pm. Each grade level is asked to provide a game that night. We will also have a SEL activity and a book walk! There will be a surprise for the best decorated Fall classroom door. And food trucks of course! We are hoping to create a welcoming space for families, students, and staff to come together in a fun and relaxed setting, so we can strengthen relationships beyond the classroom. By celebrating together, families and staff get to know one another better, foster a sense of belonging, and build our mustang pride. It should be a very fun night!! Ms. Dostart has already signed up for the soda ring toss and Ms. Serrato will be hosting a cake walk. Pre-K will be hosting a lollipop toss. If you need students to bring items, let me know, and I'll put it in our Weekly Roundup!
Student of the Week (repeat)

The google sheet is in our shared google drive. Students will be called to the office each Friday morning after announcements.
Hello Team,
I wanted to provide an important update regarding Amira Reading monthly progress monitoring protocols. This process will look a little different than what we’re used to with Istation Legacy.
Previously, with Istation, we set up the ISIP during the first week of each month, and if a student was absent during that week, their assessment would automatically activate upon return. With Amira Reading, that is no longer the case.
I have worked with Amira to establish snapshot windows during the first week of each month, these dates have been set up in the platform. Please note that these windows cannot be reopened or changed, so it’s critical that students complete their ISIP assessments within the designated dates. The district and site administration review this data regularly, so ensuring that all students complete their ISIP each month is highly important. Beginning in November, I will send completion reports to site principals.
Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly to make sure every student is captured each month. If you have any questions or need support, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to supporting our students’ literacy growth.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Trujillo
We will be having a Bookended Lesson Experience that should be very informative, allowing for questions, and some fun. I am excited about our trainer coming and the information she will share with us this go 'round!
A Bookended Lesson Experience begins with a pre-conference, the times and location are located on the document on the left. The pre-conference will allow for introductions, set norms, and review the protocol and note catcher you will use during your observation. Our host teacher will then teach the lesson to our students. After the lesson we will have 45 minutes to debrief with our host teacher.
I know we will learn a lot, and gain confidence in teaching our HQIM!! I will have two subs on our campus that day to cover students when you are attending the different aspects of your training. Thank you for being flexible in your schedule on these days, so we can maximize our learning, which will in turn maximize the learning of our students!! Woot! Please let me know if you have any questions.
