Extraction with Potassium Phosphate

Procedure:

Now you will use the liquid-liquid micro-extraction technique found in the textbook.

Transfer solution A1 to a clean large test tube. Extract three times with aqueous 1M K₂HPO₄, using 2 mL each time for a total of 6 mL.

This video shows an empty large test tube. A colorless liquid is added, followed by a second liquid that forms a second layer below the first. A pipet then draws up the lower layer and expels it into the upper layer to mix the two. The layers are allowed to separate and then a pipet is used to remove the lower layer. This process is repeated two more times.
