The IB DP Core

The IB Diploma Core - consisting of Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is what makes the entirety of the IB Diploma Programme unique from other learning programs. Students pursuing the IB Diploma work through the Core as the centerpiece of the inter-disciplinary learning programe that IS the IB Diploma Programme.

What is Theory of Knowledge (TOK)?

TOK is a thoughtful and purposeful inquiry into HOW we know. TOK students investigate different ways of knowing, different areas of knowledge, and explore knowledge questions about knowledge claims arising from real-life situations. Click on one of the following images to learn more:

What is the Extended Essay (EE)?

Simply put, the Extended Essay is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. Through this process, students investigate a topic of their choosing, and work closely with a teacher advisor in a way that is not usually undertaken until well into university study. What is Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS)?

CAS enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development by learning through experience. It provides opportunities for self-determination and collaboration with others, fostering a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment from their work.
