Apple Glen Families-
We have had a great start to the school year. September is going to be a busy month. Please see the Apple Glen At a Glance Document for the important dates for the rest of the year. Our kindergarten through 3rd graders will complete the state assessment that serves as a screener and baseline data. Your child's teacher will share the details regarding when the assessments will take place.
We would like to offer some reminders regarding our car rider line. If your child is a car rider, please encourage them to have their belongings nearby so they may exit the vehicle quickly. Your child is safest by exiting the passenger side of the vehicle. Even if your child is squeezing past a car seat, if they can do this, it is safest for them. Our parking lot is very busy and we ask that you not park and walk your child in each morning unless they are unable to unbuckle and exit without significant support. When you leave our carline, please be mindful that teachers are parking and making their way inside the building.
On Sept. 18 we will host Curriculum Night. Each session lasts about 30 min but you can choose the timeframe that is best for your schedule. This event is an opportunity for teachers to share with you about the curriculum your child will engage in this year as well as classroom expectations. In between the sessions Mrs. Burrow will offer a Volunteer training in the cafeteria. If you would like to volunteer by attending field trips, helping with parties, etc. please plan on attending this training.
Thanks,
Tracey Wood

We are excited to share that we have made an adjustment to our activity rotations. This year, instead of having Global Connections we have Intro. to Spanish. We know that many of our students are zoned to attend Ruth Barker Middle school where they will offer Spanish to all students. We are hoping the introduction to Spanish at Apple Glen will set a strong foundation for students.
We have opened a Care Room at Apple Glen. This room is a sensory friendly space that students can access when they need help regulating their emotions. All of our classrooms still have a "safe space" in their classroom. This is a space that many students access throughout the day when they are feeling big emotions. The Care Room is an extension of that and offers more support because we have an instructional assistant available to help students regulate and return to class ready to learn. We anticipate students may take a break in this space for 5-15 minutes. If your child mentions they visited the Care Room, please know this is not negative. We recognize some students benefit from a break from the classroom setting and are able to regulate more quicky in an alternate space.
We are very excited to host a Visible Learning Parent Showcase on Sept. 25. We have offered this opportunity in the past and received great feedback. The goal of the showcase is to give families a glimpse into a lesson using Visible Learning Strategies. If you are interested in this tour, you can sign up below. We can only accept the first 40 parents who sign up. You will receive a confirmation email with the details of the tour closer to time if you are one of the first 40 to sign up. You can anticipate seeing a few lessons at different grade levels but you will not necessarily visit your child's classroom.
