Apple Glen Families-
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! My family and I have enjoyed the break and I am glad to be back on campus. We are just about 1 month away from starting back to school. Over the next few weeks we will be preparing for the upcoming school year. I wanted to share a bit of information with you.
To begin, we have a new Assistant Principal at Apple Glen this year. Her name is Tiffany Snodgrass and she previously served as the AP at TJ Elementary. I know she is eager to get to know you and your children. We also have a new school counselor. Her name is Ammie Burrow. Ammie has been a counselor in our district for several years, most recently serving Mary Mae Jones Elementary and Central Park Elementary. She will start back on August 1st. Feel free to reach out to either of these ladies if they can support you in any way.
We will have our Open House for 1st through 4th grade students on Thursday, August 11th from 4:00-6:00pm. Our Kindergarten students will be invited to Open House during the day on Thursday, August 11th. Please watch for more information about this early in August.
Sincerely,
Tracey Wood
Principal
You should have received an email from Bentonville Schools explaining the steps for uploading your proof of residency. You may start doing that today. We will be mailing out communication to families in August so please make sure we have the correct address on file. If you have moved, please reach out to Ashley, our registrar and let her know. You may call Apple Glen at 479-254-5580.
Bentonville Schools now has a new website. If you have not downloaded the new app, please do so. This app will be a great way for you to say to connected with the school.
As most of you know, Apple Glen teachers have spent the past several years learning about Visible Learning and implementing Visible Learning Strategies into our instruction. In May, we were notified that we were awarded with the Visible Learning Associate School Award. This award is exciting in many ways. Apple Glen Elementary is the only school in Arkansas to earn this award. Later this month, a group of teachers will travel to Colorado to attend the Annual Visible Learning Conference and will be formally recognized for this award.
Our goal is to continue our Visible Learning journey this year. We have focused on teacher clarity and ensuring all students are able to articulate their learning intentions and what success looks like. We know that teacher clarity has an effect size of .84. Dr. Hattie's research shows that one year of growth is typically an effect size of .40. This means Teacher Clarity has the potential to significantly increase student learning. This year we will continue this work but also begin to focus on improving the feedback we give and seek from our students. Effective feedback has an effect size of .62.
We are eager to continue our growth and improve our instruction for our students.
The staff members pictured are a part of our Visible Learning Core team. These teachers were trail blazers for our school. They were willing to take on new learning and implement those strategies into their classrooms. They opened their classrooms to visitors so others in our school could learn from them. Now, all Apple Glen teachers are successfully implementing Visible Learning Strategies into their instruction and creating Visible Learners!
