Day 1
9:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Session 1
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Anxiety can start in childhood and progress throughout youth development. Anxiety disorders in youth are more common than we think, as symptoms are often masked. The focus of this PD will examine common causes of youth anxiety within our community. We will delve into the different types of anxiety and strategies to help students.
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
In our modern world, feedback plays a huge role in successful collaboration. In this workshop, we will discover that delivering and receiving feedback is a skill we can grow and improve. We will explore what makes feedback challenging and practice techniques to get it right.
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Join us to make something! In this workshop, we'll talk about choice-based curriclulum, the benefits, and the differences between a choice-based philosophy and more traditional teaching approaches. Once we've had a chance to introduce our philosophy, we'll give the group a chance to participate in our mini-makerspace.
Session 2
11:30 AM - 12:15 PM
In this talk, we will learn about the academic support program at BASEC @ BHS as a way to understand academic practices at BASEC more generally and how these practices align with other BASEC programs. We will learn that lowering barriers to learning and increasing capacities to learn are different from each other, and that both are essential parts of our work. You will be asked to participate via storytelling, discussion, and sharing reflections about your own work. This workshop will help us understand, learn from, and value the work that we each do -- even working across different roles, divisions, sites, and seasons.
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Attendees for this workshop will hear about the process of creating a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired role-playing game geared towards elementary-level students: from building a fantasy world and ambiance to developing SEL-focused goals. After receiving this inspirational toolkit, we will also get to play our own mini session! Come join us for information, fun, and discovery.
11:45 AM - 12:30 PM
This workshop will highlight quick and easy-to-implement activities that have worked successfully in the BASEC @ Chenery afterschool program. Participants will learn a variety of engaging games, creative challenges, and simple educational activities that require minimal preparation and materials. The session will focus on practical ideas that help keep students engaged, curious, and actively participating. Educators will leave with some ready-to-use activities they can easily bring into their own programs.
