DAILY UPDATE: Let's keep up the energy and fun this week, back to school Thursday!!
Week 7: Shark Week!
Hey everyone. So impressed with all you efforts and attention last week. We have another challenging week of online learning this week so we are going to have a theme.
I want you to pick your favourite animal/insect/mammal/whatever!
It can be real or make believe (cough cough dragons)
You will use this as the focus for all your learning this week and a the end of the week put it together in a big presentation!
I look forward to seeing you in the morning to discuss your ideas.
Through all of lockdown there will be some expectations outlined below. Make sure you are doing what you need to get done.
You MUST check in mornings and afternoons each day. This is like doing the roll and if you are not checking in, I will follow up with a phone call to your family to check on you.
ONLY do school work during normal school hours. This means 9-11am, 11:30-1pm and 1:40 - 3pm. Use the rest of your time for yourself.
Complete the work in which ever way works for YOU. If this means digitally, on paper or however make a decision on what format will help you best complete the learning.
Don't struggle alone!!! If you are finding it hard to concentrate, can't keep on task or don't understand what to do, please ask for help.
Store and submit all completed learning so you can get credit for all of you hard work. I will be posting a graph to show your overall points score and you can claim your rewards once we are back at school!
When learning and interacting online there are some basic manners and etiquette to use. These are outlined below
Listen & be present during video chats.
Mute yourself unless you need to talk.
One person talking at a time - don't interrupt.
Chat is for questions related to the topic, not your own personal chat channel.
Language is to be school appropriate.
Select clothing and a location suitable for speaking to others.
You will have been sent a an invite to your school email address with an invite to our class Google Calendar. Once you have received this you can add it to your own calendar. This will show you what is happening over the week.
If you click on an event you from your calendar you will be able to join the video chat for that meeting using Google Meetings.
All class events, lessons and online conferences will posted on Google Calendar so have a look at it and try it yourself.
Please create a folder on your school Google Drive named "Online Learning". Within this folder, you can make subfolders of "Reading", "Writing", "Maths" and "PE". Once you have done this, please share your "Online Learning 2021" folder with me, so I can see all of the amazing work you are uploading.
You can upload photos of written work, create documents, Google Drawings, slides, videos and more. Please make sure every document is named and dated, so I know when the work is being completed. You don't need to share every individual document, as I have access to your Google Drive folder.
Please send me an email when you are ready for me to mark your work, just so I know when you are finished and ready for feedback.
Learning from home can be a challenge. There a some simple things you can do to make it better for yourself, which are listed below
Have a dedicated learning space. Think of this as your desk, do your work from here each day and pack it up each day at 3pm.
Set Alarms. Use your phone or device to create a normal school routine for yourself. The closed to a normal school day you can keep it the better it will be for you once normal school resumes.
Take a break! For every 45mins staring at a screen you need a 15 minute break. Go talk to your family, play with a pet, read a book or do some exercise.
Don't stress. If something is too hard or you don't understand it thats normal, it happens to everyone. Can't concentrate? Not feeling up to online learning today? Make sure you let me know, if I don't know, I can't help!
Have fun. This is hard time for all of us so the best thing to do is smile and enjoy it. Put on some of your favourite music when independently learning, do a just dance for a break, wear a funny hat or mask to our meetings. The more we can put a smile on our faces the easier this will be!
On each Thursday during lockdown we will be focusing on our well-being. You will need to book a time with myself for a 10 minute meeting. During this meeting we will discuss how you are going, your work and things I can help you with. During the rest of the school day, I want you to do a personal project or learning that you really enjoy. It could be an Art project, sports, coding, making a board game. Just so long as it's focused, challenging and productive.
Make sure you record what you do so I can check it out!
