WHOLE GROUP ENRICHMENT (WGE)
Beebe's Early Childhood Whole Group Enrichment (WGE) works on two premises: Open/Whole Group discussion and critical/creative brainstorming with problem-solving. We believe that children develop creative/critical thinking from hearing the thoughts and ideas of an instructor and from their peers. As they hear these thoughts and ideas, each child is hopefully encouraged to delve deeper into their own thinking, as they become a part of this learning/discussion/brainstorming process.
Students (K-1) attend EC Whole Group Enrichment weekly for thirty minutes. Students are engaged in learning that is divergent/creative, convergent/analytical, visual/spatial, and evaluative/critical. Some lessons are literacy-based working to cover all content areas as well as creativity and affective needs.
EC Whole Group also provides a STEM class that is made up of high-achieving students in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Students who attend the STEM class (one day per week) are recommended to the WGE Specialist by K-1 general classroom teachers. The STEM class involves students in higher-level thinking and challenges. The EC Whole Group classroom also offers periods of time throughout the week that allow for one-on-one and/or small group lessons that focus on social-emotional learning (SEL).
