Beebe High School
Honors Contract
Honors courses are meant to prepare high school students for AP classes (college-level classes taken in high school) *Note: Honors courses are only offered onsite at Beebe School District. For students wanting to take future AP courses, please be aware that Honors courses are prerequisites for taking most AP courses.
General Course Expectations:
Honors students’ performance will be evaluated before being recommended for an AP course.
Successful completion of each Honors course requires extra study hours (per Honors course) outside of class on a regular basis.
For a student whose grade is less than 70% at the end of any progress report or nine-week grading period, student/parent/teacher contact will be made in order to evaluate the advisability of the student remaining in the Honors course. Progress reports and nine weeks grades are monitored by the AP Director.
Guidelines for grading will be clearly communicated to students and parents in the class and through the Honors course syllabus.
Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty on assignments, tests, or projects will be subject to grade penalties and could possibly result in disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes cheating (through any means) i.e. copying the work of another student, plagiarism (copying without citation), any platform of AI, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination.
Students not adhering to the school discipline policy (i.e. disruptive, insubordinate, refusing to complete tasks) can be subject to course removal from an Honors class. A student/parent/teacher/administrator/counselor/AP Director conference will be held to discuss the best educational placement for the student.
Should a student need to pivot to online learning during the school year, Honors coursework will be fulfilled through Google Classroom with the Honors onsite instructor. All information in this contract will apply to the student while using Google Classroom (see Google Classroom responsibilities) until they return to onsite instruction.
**7th-12 grade ExCEL-GT students are strongly encouraged to take Honors courses. Students who choose to not take Honors/AP courses should maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA for GT identification. Students taking Honors courses should maintain no lower than a C in Honors classes and no lower than a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Should ExCEl-GT students fall below the GPA criteria, contact will be made with the student and the parent/guardian to discuss the best educational placement and/or a plan to help the student improve.
Late Work Policy
Late work will be graded according to the following:
1 day late / 50% penalty
2 days late / no credit
All assignments/projects are due at the time specified by the Honors instructor. If a student knows they will be absent due to school-related activities on the date an assignment is due - they must make prior arrangements with the Honors instructor. The late work policy for Beebe Honors and AP courses is different than general classes due to the higher level of the courses.
*** 8th Grade Honors Physical Science and Honors Algebra I
Ninth Grade Honors Students 1st semester only late policy
2 days late / 50% penalty
3 days late / no credit
Honors Classwork When Absent
It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with his/her Honors instructor to make up work missed. The student is expected to make up all work missed in a timely manner as laid out by the Honors instructor. Students who miss due to school-related activities must make arrangements with their Honors instructor prior to the day(s) they miss. If work is due during their absence (for a school-related activity) the student must make the teacher aware of their upcoming absence and make arrangements for missed work. In a semester grading period, a student may not receive credit for make-up work and/or tests if he/she has accumulated more than eight (8) absences. All work and/or tests must be completed within the same number of days absent. (School-related activity absences must be discussed with the instructor prior to the absence.) The teacher may give additional days if extenuating circumstances occur.
Academic Dishonesty Policy
Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty on assignments, tests, or projects will be subject to grade penalties and could possibly result in disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes cheating (through any means) i.e. copying the work of another student, plagiarism (copying without citation), any platform of AI, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination. Honors/AP instructors use a platform that many colleges and universities use to check for many forms
of academic dishonesty.
1st Offense
20% or more unoriginal content (even if properly cited) will result in a zero. Allowance will be given to redo the assignment for up to half credit at the discretion of the instructor.
2nd Offense
A zero will be given with no chance of a “redo” on the assignment.
Google Classroom Assignments
Honors teachers use Google Classroom for most all assignments. They set the time when assignments
are due. If their assignments are due at 11:59 p.m. - it is considered late at 12:00 a.m. Students must comply with the “work is due” times by submitting their assignments before the last second of the time the assignment is due. Unless a student makes prior arrangements with the Honors instructor - the due date stands and late penalties will be enforced.

Advanced Placement (AP) Contract
The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a cooperative educational endeavor between College Board® and secondary schools, colleges, and universities. It gives high school students exposure to college-level material through involvement in an AP course and then gives them an opportunity to show what they have learned by taking an AP exam. Colleges and universities often grant credit, placement, or both, to students who make a qualifying score on an AP exam based on college/university criteria. AP courses are offered to Arkansas High School students at no cost to them. However, should a student drop an AP course after exams are ordered (first week of November) or fail to take their AP Exam, there will be a $40 exam cancellation fee. This fee is not Beebe High School’s fee, but College Board’s fee that is charged to Beebe High School. The fee is paid to College Board®.
A student’s performance in Honors courses and teacher recommendation will be evaluated before being recommended for AP courses.
General Course Expectations:
Successful completion of each AP course requires extra study hours (per AP course) outside of class on a regular basis.
Students are expected to attend three four-hour AP study sessions during the school year. The AP instructors set dates well in advance trying to work around other school events. Students who work will be given study session dates well in advance and must plan accordingly.
Students are expected to take the AP exam for all AP courses in which they are enrolling during the 2022-2023 school year. The exams are given over a two-week period in May. AP exams are beneficial because they compare student achievement on a national scale, help prepare students for future comprehensive exams at the college level, and enable students to potentially receive college/university credit or advanced placement. If a student misses an exam for any reason other than the following –
School-related events (athletic or other school competitions)
Major family emergency
Major illness
the student forfeits their AP exam and the $40 College Board Exam Cancellation fee will be due. If there is a late test date that can be arranged for the AP exam that was missed, the AP Director will work with the student to take the late exam. The student will be responsible for the $40 College Board Cancellation Fee as well as the fee for the exam - $96. The state of Arkansas does not cover the cost of missed exams.
For a student whose grade average is less than 70% at the end of any progress report or nine-week grading period, student/parent/teacher contact will be made in order to evaluate the advisability of the student remaining in the AP class. Progress reports and nine weeks grades are monitored by the AP Director. Should a student need to drop an AP course due to failing grades (after the November exam order date), the College Board Exam Cancelation fee of $40 will be paid by the student. This is a fee that is sent directly to College Board®.
Guidelines for grading will be clearly communicated to students in class and parents through each instructor’s AP course syllabus.
All AP students will take a first-semester exam (in December) and the AP exam in May. Although students may be exempt from the first-semester exam, AP students will be expected to take a semester exam in December (end of the first semester). The instructor can opt to give the exam the week before “exam” week or may require the student to come the week of the exams.
Should a student need to pivot to online learning for a “period of time” during the school year, AP coursework will be fulfilled through Google Classroom with the AP onsite instructor. All information in this contract will apply to the student while using Google Classroom until they return to onsite instruction.
Should a Virtual Arkansas AP student return to onsite instruction, admission into the onsite AP course will depend on the student’s performance while in Virtual Arkansas.
Weighted Course -
AP courses are weighted on a 5-point grading scale if an AP student successfully completes
their AP course(s) and sits for the AP exam(s) in May.
Late Work Policy
Late work will be graded according to the following:
1 day late / 50% penalty
2 days late / no credit
All assignments/projects are due at the time specified by the AP instructor. If a student knows they will be absent due to school-related activities on the date an assignment is due - they must make prior arrangements with the AP instructor. The late work policy for Beebe Honors and AP courses is different than general classes due to the higher level of the courses. Students are expected to complete work even if partial or no credit is given.
Work When a Student is Absent
It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with his/her AP instructor to make up for missed work. The student is expected to make up all work missed. Students who miss due to school-related activities must make arrangements with their AP instructor PRIOR to the day(s) they miss.
If a student is removed from an AP course for Academic Dishonesty, the College Board Exam Cancellation Policy of $40 will be collected from the student.
1st Offense
20% or more unoriginal content (even if properly cited) will result in a zero. Allowance will be
given to redo the assignment for up to half credit at the discretion of the instructor.
2nd Offense
A zero will be given without a chance of a “redo” on the assignment.
AP Testing
All students taking an AP class will be expected to take the AP exam. As stated earlier, students in Arkansas have their AP test fee(s) paid for by the state. If a student drops his/her course after exams are ordered (the first week of November) a College Board Exam Cancellation fee of $40 will be collected from the student.
Google Classroom Assignments
Honors teachers use Google Classroom for most all assignments. Instructors set the time when assignments are due. If their assignments are due at 11:59 p.m. - it is considered late at 12:00 a.m. Unless a student makes prior arrangements with the Honors instructor - the due date stands and late penalties will be enforced.
AP Exit Policy
AP classes may be dropped five days after progress reports, at the first 4.5 weeks mark, or at the end of the first nine weeks with AP Director approval provided there is a corresponding class to take. If there is no corresponding class to take, the student may drop at semester. Students who drop an AP course after the November AP exam order date will pay the $40 College Board Exam Cancellation fee. ** Please note - if a student fails an AP course in the first nine weeks, a student/parent/teacher conference will be held. If the student chooses to remain in the course for a second nine weeks and fails - the student will be removed from the course and the $40 College Board fee will be collected from the student.
