Standards and Common Ground
After the browser wars came a renaissance of sorts, ECMAScript was able to give way to a new standard where everyone could access JavaScript.
ECMAScript resolved aggression and allowed growth
ECMAScript came from JavaScript being adopted by the ECMA as a standard for performing computations in Web applications.
ECMAScript created a foundation for everyone to use.
“The ECMAScript specification is a standardized specification of a scripting language developed by Brendan Eich of Netscape; initially named Mocha, then LiveScript, and finally JavaScript.” (ECMAScript Wikipedia).
Allowed JavaScript to go public.
“ECMA Decided to use the term ECMAScript to talk about the official language because Oracle owns the trademark for the term JavaScript.” (The History of JavaScript and its Evolution, Suleman Elahi).
Depicts JavaScript as an enabler(Medium, Joe Honton).
ECMAScript 1 was an important release because this acted on the idea to create a standard for JavaScript. This situation helped defuse conflicts between companies.
"The journey began in 1997 with the release of ECMAScript 1. This inaugural version laid the foundation for the language and introduced essential features that formed the basis for future developments.” (The History of JavaScript and its Evolution, Suleman Elahi).
