This is a quick project where you will working with someone else to do some basic research on a battle or event from World War Two and then making a basic infographic about the event. An infographic is a poster that that organizes facts, numbers, short statements and basic images in a way that allows a viewer to quickly learn about a topic. The infographic to the right about the Battle of Marne in World War One is a model of the type of infographic you will be producing in this project.
It is important to see that the infographic uses the interaction of the text and the visuals to inform the reader. Note how all the visual materials connect to parts of the text description - everything has a purpose.
Before getting into the details of the project, it is first important to take a good look at the organization and types of visuals used in the model infographic about the Battle of the Marne. The image below shows the different types of text and visuals used in the infographic and the role they play in informing the viewer. Your project should use the same types of visuals, but the layout can be different (click here to see an alternative layout of the same infographic material).

You will have the next two classes to do the research into a event and to build the infographic - You will have to be on task.
In this project, you will be using Google Drawing, Google Sheets and an online program for making historical maps to make a infographic of a battle in World War Two.
First Part of Project - Choosing a battle and doing basic research.
You do not need to do a lot of research for this project, but you need to do enough so that you organize the overall infographic and make all of the component parts (Summary Phrase, Map, Statistical Chart, Icons and Quote).
At the end of class today you will turn in this sheet showing your progress on the first part of the project.
This is a list of the event you can choose from in this project:
Western Front
Battle of Dunkirk
Battle of Britain
Dieppe Raid
Battle of El Alamein
D-Day - Invasion of Normandy
Battle of Bulge
Battle of El Alamein
Battle of Monte Cassino
Eastern Front
Battle of Moscow
Battle of Leningrad
Battle of Kursk
Battles for Kharkov
Operation Bagration
Battle of Berlin
Holocaust
Babi Yar
Wannsee Conference
Auschwitz
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
Second Part of Project - Building the infographic in Google Drawing.
You will be building the infographic in Google Drawing using parts developed in other programs.
The text for the project will be done in Google Drawing.
The statistic chart will be done in Google Sheets and then copied into Google Drawing.
Icons can be sourced from internet images (you can clean up the icons using this photo editing program)
The map will be first made in the historical map maker program and then finished in Google Drawing to add in text, arrows and other parts(I recommend making this its own file that you will then put into the infographic Google Drawing).
Important Points for Making Your Infographic Better:
Use text of different sizes and shape for title, summary phrase and text.
Make text statements direct. The text description in the infographic for the Battle of the Marne has three sentences and a total of 87 words.
Make sure the interesting facts are facts - details are important and have an "wow" factor that makes an impression on the viewer.
Make the text in the statistical graphs large enough that it can be easily read.
