Saying goodbye to Ines, Amelie and Lera the Dorter way. A really chilled little sit together with DJ Shayna's stylish playlist, filled peppers, humous, serrano ham, chorizo, grapes, breadsticks, fresh mint leaves & freshly toasted flatbreads, guacamole and a glass of wine for those who can. Kind of an after show party to the Legat show too. Later on Chloe H, Flavia and Summer joined. All the best for the future!
This was by miles the most amazing show I have seen in my time as a teacher. The skill levels of the dancers on stage were just astonishing, there was classical ballet, there were contemporary and jazz dance elements. Everyone did ever so well to put this show on stage, it was very cool, highly entertaining and at times very emotional. The lights show, the choice of music and of course the choreographies, which required so much control, athleticism and concentration - a true showcase of what our girls can do. Dorter was widely represented by Anna, Lucy, Hannah, Amelie, Annika, Olivia, Zara, Chloe C, Ines, Summer, Flavia and Chloe H, not to forget Diana who went through all the grueling rehearsals only to be stricken down by illness at the last minute. Everyone involved can be highly proud of themselves, we certainly are of you!
Mr Rohmer and Dorter Family
6th .... a depleted pool of eligible participants, but a great effort, especially Lera who won the brain questions event single handedly, the cricket squad, the tennis double (finalists) and the dramatists (bronze) and really everyone else. We know ... Olympic spirit ... taking part is what counts ... still, next year we shall target consistent podium finishes! Playlist with pump up trax, Disclosure et. al. already done.
The good thing about Bushy Wood is there was always some place to go. And there was always something to do. At one point in time, it started raining and it didn’t quit for four hours. We’d been through every kind of rain there is: little bitty stinging rain, and big old fat rain, and sometimes even rain that flew in sideways. We were all a good partnership, ‘cause we been watching out for one another, like sisters and stuff.
Dorter Company
We got to see a lot of the country side. We would take these really long getting-lost type of walks between stations. It was always fun, though. Only, Kim and Ruby were always getting these funny feelings about the crates, or the wires, or the boys stacking the crates, so they’d tell them to speed up, stack up. But in the end they managed to break and hold on to the all Bede’s crate climbing height record of both days!
.... and oversteps the line. Not looking guilty at all!
This was a brilliantly organised event. A delicious outdoor three course meal at long tables, live music (a lady with an electric violin, playing popular tunes), a bar (manned by Mr Henham) and the big oak tree by the lake wrapped in fairy lights. Thank you Marketing and Holroyd Howe! The atmosphere was really chilled, lots of posing for photos, drinks on the lawn and socialising with friends from other houses. And although heavy rain put a slightly earlier end to the evening, it was a night to remember.
At lunch time today the Dorter truck came down with three big boxes of .... our new jumpers! Finally! They are here! They are perfect! They are comfy! Everyone around the school says wow how nice and cool they are!
For all of those girls who had their special day during lock down and enjoyed their google meet singing of happy birthday to you but not much else ... here were your cakes, your games, your fun. No one gets left out in Dorter. ;)
And we are not coming back .... Spontaneous parties are always the best parties, we sang and danced along to classics by Electric Light Orchestra, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, The Clash and the like ... for hours on end, a fitting farewell to those of us who will not return in September.
Lera, Tonia and Diana made Ukrainian dumplings with cherries or strawberries which were utterly delicious ...
... and gave an interesting presentation on the biggest country in Europe by area. Everybody was impressed by the beautiful landscapes, there was info on customs, traditions and recipes.
Well done to the all-Dorter vocals line up (left to right) Flavia, Summer and Amber for an amazing performance - highly enjoyable and such incredible talent. Loved the choice and range of songs from Dolly Parton to Daft Punk and Abba. We wish you all the best for your musical careers!
An entertaining set of evenings of strategy board games, card games and getting ensconced in the newly acquired Mahjong game. Games evenings are the perfect way to wind down together after a busy week of assessment opportunities for many of us.
One of the first U6 to be finished with all her academic stuff and moving out. This was a lovely May evening sunshine sit together with some Middle Eastern food and a bubbly to the future. You'll be missed, Amie.
As there's no formal dinners this academic year, we had opted for an Australia themed evening for the Dorter bbq. This way our formal dresses could be kept away from the dangers of ketchup, coriander sauce and kangaroo steak. Yes, it was sunny .... We ate nice food at the buffet, sixth formers had some real beer and played rounders. The best thing from the Australia party were the brownies.
Shayna
Congratulations to Evita, Maddy and Tati, who are our new Head and Deputy Heads of House! Well done, you three!
Congratulations to Alice and Georgie who have been made Deputy Head Girl and Head Girl respectively of THE. ENTIRE. SCHOOL.! Well done on a personal level, and what a success for Dorter!

Perfect weather for an Easter egg hunt! Straight after lunch roll call, the doors to the garden were opened with great impatience and the race was truly underway to track down one (or more) of the 35 golden bunnies. We are pretty sure we found them all, although we will never be sure. They were well hidden in plants, trees, grass, pots, tree trunks and even the barbeque set. Eve and Liyana found the two 200g big ones! Moreover, inside the house there were lots of small eggs hidden which kept falling out of sofas and off picture frames. Happy (Easter everyone)!
... needs planning. Therefore on Saturday morning we backed delicious scones under the guidance of Matron D. Amazingly Mia, who had competed against a certain Jamaican Olympian in the 100 meters just before (and came very close to beating her) still had lots of momentum and energy to lead the baking from the front. On Sunday we ate the things with a nice cup of tea (and later Starbucks on order) while playing a well planned pub quiz on the screen.
The firepit - that was nice! We should do more of this. Evita made a really good fire, it was actually one of the best fires we have ever made, and it was really nice to see all of the girls coming downstairs and actually joining ink, we made smores like digestive biscuits, so you melt the marshmallow and you put the marshmallow in the biscuit, the weather played along, we saw the stars, stunning!
Lucy
On Saturday evening we had a lovely evening around our firepit to celebrate having a lot of the girls back together. A lot of fun was had and many a giant marshmallow was toasted. A lovely evening but we did miss our absent friends and are looking forward to them joining us soon.
Our Saturday morning activity was to bake cookies for a film night on Sunday afternoon. Several girls joined in and followed Matron T's infamous chocolate cookie recipe. It was enjoyable making the cookies and on Sunday we got to sample them as we had our cosy film afternoon in the lounge, they were delicious! On Saturday afternoon Miss Jackson took some girls roller skating in the MPH, lots of fun was had as illustrated by this video from Clara and Anoushka.
Miss Jackson and the girls planned a surprise belated birthday celebration on Friday evening for Dr Lewis as her birthday was in lockdown. Dr Lewis entered the lounge to be greeted by all of the girls singing happy birthday, banners, balloons, a birthday presentation and an amazing cake made by Matron T and the first years. Then girls took turns to stand up and read verses of a poem about a teacher, and some inspirational words of their own, before presenting Dr Lewis with a bunch of flowers. Dr Lewis felt quite emotional and thinks she should now have two birthdays every year like the Queen !
The Wii Dance off was fun and we had girls from different year groups participating to win a Free Starbucks drink. We had a few rounds with Anoushka, Mia, Hannah and Zara coming out victorious. The semi-final saw Anoushka going against Mia and Hannah against Zara. All ABBA songs! The final was between Anoushka and Zara with Zara winning a lovely Starbucks Hot chocolate. It was a fun filled evening.
For the time being and as long as day boarders cannot enter the house due to covid restrictions, O16 is now and extension of Dorter house. It is cosy, warm and still well aired, it has a coffee machine, tea maker, mini fridge and reclining chairs. You can play your music and store your food. Matron is refilling the biscuits tin. All day boarders have salto access to the class room until 6 pm. No more waiting in the rain. Feel at home!
Our remotely conducted charity week was great success! We raised an amazing £ 1617 and in doing so we more than doubled our target. We did a forfeit against every £50 we would raise, and decided on certain challenges, which you can read about and watch by clicking on the daisy flowers. We are proud of everyone involved, students, matrons, teachers and would like to express our thanks to everybody who kindly donated to the just-giving page set up by Dr Lewis. As we have gone far beyond the total stipulated on the charity portal, there is more to come. Tuesday, February 23 is going to be purple day - the whole Dorter community is turning themselves house colour for a day!
Baking with Matron T was great fun! We got to learn the secret recipe for her banana bread and banana muffins all whilst being told step by step instructions. Now even during lockdown we can still enjoy her speciality. Our kitchens may have gotten a bit messy but it was all worth it. Thank you Matron for continuing to share what you do best with us, even if it's through on a screen.
Georgie
... was won by Mrs Morton-Freeman's tutor group thanks to this brilliant effort by Chloe!
In the inter-house running from home contest, we lifted ourselves from a slow start to beat our main competition by more than 200 km, aggregating a sound 804 km - team effort. These days it is more important than ever to stay fit, move about, run, jog, walk, cycle, swim. A good new year's resolution. It doesn't have to be far or fast. Just a bit more often - as a healthy habit.
This year due to the early return of most of our international students we were a bit low in numbers, just under half the girls were there, but it was still great. We did awards, gave out the Secret Santa present, which had been gathering up under our amazing Christmas tree. The house was decorated in an ultra stylish way, all silvery, icy theme. We had baby quizzes and the like, and Holroyd Howe served up the three course meal thank you. The highlight clearly was Amber and Summer performing her songs from cabaret. We all had a good time, and it was the perfect way to see out the term.
Cabaret - this year pre-recorded - was amazing. We watched it in a live stream, together as a house, with party food and drinks, all cosy on the sofas. So many Dorter girls of all year groups were involved as instrumentalists, dancers and singers. It was a really good evening together, loved it.
Lots of Dorter girls helped to staff the tables and take the card payments. It wasn't easy and under normal cash on hand circumstances we would have probably raised more money, but it was still worth the effort.
The girls were able to present delicious home made food and drinks, such as ginger bread, hot chocolate with marsh mallows (see pictures). We also had apple punch and pop corn, pastries and chocolate brownies.
The boom box was blaring out festive music. This all happened while fayre goers could play a game of "pin the heart on the grinch". Lots of effort went into the preparations and the girls enjoyed the event.
Holly
One of many, the tournament was reffed and eventually won by Georgie in a final against Lucy, so basically France versus Holland. Amazing skills on display by the two finalists! (the video is showing the semi between China and England).
So it is our charity week next week and this weekend it is the big bake off, one tutor group after the other. The U6 made a start on Saturday by making ginger bread stars, and men, and entire families. Thanks Jackie, without you no way! Best at baking matron in the school.
In a beautifully decorated Dorter with international flags on all tables and Mexican Día de los Muertos festival garlands, we performed songs from our home countries (гарний!), danced & played a places around the world memory game amongst other things. We had kindly lent our fire pit to the boys from Cambo and expect their spin bikes on loan for a weekend in January in return.
Lots of birthdays in the week. There was cake of course and we played birthday games in the recital room.
The campfire pit has arrived, and so has Christmas. It is a bit earlier this year, if for no other reason than some of us leaving in 2 weeks for their countries and actually not being here for the festive weeks themselves. The campfire is amazing, it can be lit in under a minute and burns for hours. This was a completely chilled event. We listened to the songs from the two She & Him Christmas albums and held marshmallows over the fire. Thank you Mrs Morton-Freeman for building the fireplace and making sure this was such a nice late afternoon.
Today is Miss Jackson's special day. Happy birthday from all of us!!! Thank you for your esprit and enthusiasm!
the girls & colleagues
On Saturday we played several rounds of baby animals memory, then we found the last alcfree beers from the Octoberfest and watched the England rugby game on prime, while Lera, Diana and Tonia lit the bbq and grilled various sorts of halloumi. Mr Rohmer had brought in healthy snacks such as carrots, peppers and sellery for dipping into humous, or you could have mozzarella with tomatoes, balsamic vinegar and basil. On Sunday there were two things happening, a rice cooking work shop with Matron Zekija, again lots of vegetables and if you felt like something fruity, Miss Jackson did a smoothie and milk shakes party. ;)
Huge cake, 17 candles!
We did the movie quiz Flavia and Mr Rohmer had prepared ... against year group teams from Cambo, Xways and Stud and our Dorter U6 came second. 75 out of a 100 correct, but the L6 Cambos were a bit quicker. Xways L5 lead for most the game but then dropped to 4th out of the medals. However, the entire Dorter got knocked out of the wifi after three quarters of the time, so basically we declare victory - no mistakes!
This was another fantastic evening! Many thanks to Matron Zekija who had bought all the stuff for the Chocolate Fountain, not just marshmallow and sweets, not only dark, milk and white chocolate, but also healthy fruits such as strawberries and pears and rice bread. Plus the oranges and bananas that are flying around, it made for a fantastic meal. Indigo, Mia, Nora and Ines cut the fruit and prepared the chocolate mousse. Then we put on "V for Vendetta" on our Dorter firestick and watched this brilliant 2006 movie which predicts a pandemic, a right wing government and a masked Guy Fawkes type of rebel - a movie which we wholeheartedly recommend to everyone!
Greetings and Best Wishes all the way to Urumqi! We are having lollies, chocolate and fanta on your behalf!
This is a picture of the food bank where we raised £37 and we were able to get all this food, plus an extra box of food. So a really good achievement.
Lucy
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Fourth place in pumpkin carving. A massive well done and thank you to Lera, Tonia and Diana.
Not quite a podium finish, but our pumpkins are pure and utter art! Very stylish, a well thought through concept reminiscent of the horror film aesthetics of the 1980s, Halloween I/II/II, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Shining - the decade, when Halloween became a thing. Well done for this amazing job! A lot of work has gone into this, impressive attention to detail.
Early Halloween parties, with themed donuts and wonderful costume from everybody in Dorter. A full house wink murder game with some of the day boarders and trick or treat riddles, bring everybody in Dorter together.
Kim
As we had so many sausages left and 0% kinderbeers, we thought we might as well, with the bbq sets still being there and some coal and extra bred from Holroyd Howe ... a nice chilled out evening, food for anyone who fancied it. Tonia did all the (supervised) barbequing tonight, really a great job for a vegetarian. The weather played a long as well, nice sunset and all.
Kind of got rained off. Indeed, netball was a sure high pointer for us but the tournament was abandoned after heavy rain. We still had lots of things going on, hockey didn't work out this time (we need to train more as a house team for next time it's on), but the junior quiz team came second and hopefully there is points elsewhere. Would be nice to hang on to 4th overall and build from there!
The month of October announced itself with an evening drizzle at first. Did this stop Dorter from preparing for a good time? No! First of all, there was Miss Yan who with great help from Quizel, Ally, Kim, Yufei, Cheryl and Giulia staged the series of events for the Mid Autumn festival. They made Chinese bubble tea which kept everyone going through the evening, organised an enigmatic riddle competition and a game of Jianzi (which is a feathered ball to be kicked around and which requires great skill). Outside firestarters Tonya and Lera lit the two barbeques and indeed ... punctual to the second at 7:30 PM the invited boys from Cambo came over, hungry like wolves ... just as the heavens opened up with a high pressure cold shower. Did this stop us from having a good time? No! Of course not. Mr Rohmer took over grilling German sausages in the rain and darkness (the top light doesn't work), so the first batch of Bratwurst turned out quite black, until someone got one of those torch lights which cannot be used within 50 miles of Gatwick airport and all was good. There was tons of food, pretzels, frankfurters, other sausages, mustard, sausages and many bottles of Kinderbeer in a huge washing bucket filled with cold water to keep them cool. Amie and Summer played party music through the boom speaker until Jamie hooked up his phone and played ... well the (to Germans) slightly embarrassing, cheap sounding party tunes usually to be heard at the Oktoberfest in Munich and apres ski parties (johnny depp depp depp ...). Matron Jackie got showered in 0% wheat beer when Mr Rohmer tried to dowse the flames German style, and everybody enjoyed the event until it was time to say good bye (First Years bed time). Miss Jackson had four bratwurst, which is impressive. More to come! U6TG
... fell on the same day as our Oktoberfest and Mid Autumn festival, so there was cake and a party!
So Mr Rohmer took us, Summer, Amie, Flavia, on the minibus to go Lidl shopping, sausages, beer (0.0% :) - and other things such as bread rolls, mustard, ketchup, a bottle of red and white wine for the sixth formers. Many thanks for Ray who drove us and waited an hour in the bus until we were done. We bought two massive baskets full of stuff ... tomorrow is the night, October 1. U6TG
We were blindfolded and the point of the game was to get across without touching any of the plastic bowls placed on the ground. We had a partner, whose job was to guide us through the obstacles. We did this because one motto of our house is trust!
Dia
Everyone loves AS tracking! It helps us steer our social and emotional development. Unfortunately the wifi was a bit shocking so we had to take things in turns.
We had so much fun! We drank low alcohol fizzy drinks and sang .... songs by Abba, Queen and some Spanish twerky songs. Shayna rocked it. It took two ... yeah .... about 2 hours (.... 30 min) to get the Karaoke sorted but everyone was so in the team spirit that time flew by making tiktoks. U6TG
Many thanks to the Cambo Boys and Mr McKeefry who gifted us one of their pianos! So happy ....
Cake, more cake and a night out with friends at the Plough ...
We were given some questions to do in our teams. One of them was to go and take a picture of a Lemur, we also had to make up a rap about how amazing Dorter is. After we did as many questions as possible in 5 mins, we had some delicious pizza and then Miss Jackson called out who came 3rd, 2nd, and 1st and we have some chocolate as well. Thank you to Miss Jackson for sorting it out for us it was so much fun and thanks to Mr. Rohma for getting the pizza and things.
Mia
We have had the most fantastic time! Returners and new girls got to know each other better, played games and ate our self made cakes. We got all creative making balloon animals and it was also Annika's birthday. We are so very lucky to have this huge garden, especially these days when being indoors is not a good thing.
Lera
Preparations are underway this morning for our Party weekend as we celebrate two birthdays and have our welcome tea party tomorrow afternoon, Matron T is leading a bake off class and Anoushka, Clara and Maria are making the birthday cakes!
