Christmas Trip
We started with the exchange of Secret Santa gifts and the girls really outdid themselves this year. Then it was on the coach and to St. Saviour’s Church, Eastbourne where this year’s Carol Service was held. At the church, everyone joined in with Carol singing and the Bede’s choir (including Dorter’s very own, Virginia, Siena and Maya ) also delighted us with a couple of group performances.
From St Saviours, we made our way to Eastbourne centre for some much needed last minute Christmas shopping before heading to the Panto (oh no we didn’t!) to see Beauty and the Beast. Honourable mentions must go to Lulu Xu, Blanche, Caitlin, Mila who really enjoyed the performance, with Lulu experiencing the Panto for the first time and Blanche relating to the French element within this year's performance.
Finally we headed to dinner at Pomodoro e Mozzarella and had a delicious two course dinner before heading back to house to watch Nativity in PJ’s. A wonderful day was had by all!
Christmas House Party
This year we had our boarding house party in Dorter house, we were treated to a beautiful Christmas dinner served to us by Holroyd. The girls worked as a team to help Dorter look beautiful for the event and I have never seen such an efficient clean up team effort. Mila Jusidman and Paula Gutierrez did a wonderful job of organising the party games and hosting the event. The staff were even treated (some may say, subjected!) to some beautiful Christmas Karaoke afterwards and it was wonderful to see all the girls have fun.
Elf on the Shelf
The Elf returned! Lots of fun was had with the Elf this year. The Elf got up to mischief (with a little help from some of the girls!), from elaborate pranks of hiding the Secret Santa Gifts to nice little treats for the girls and even appearing one morning hanging from a coat hanger wearing a new Dorter purple dress!
Christmas Cake Decorating
The girls had a wonderful time decorating the Christmas cake for our house competition this year.
Christmas Time
We have so many wonderful Chrismtas events taking place which we will update you with very soon. Here is a sneak peak at our Secret Santa and a few of our Dorter elf shenanigans.
Christmas Decorating!!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! We have now officially decorated for the holiday season!
We all got to make a decoration and put it on the tree, some of us went cute, some funny and some clever!
The lights went up, the music played and many Twiglets were eaten! A great time was had by all!. Thank you Mrs Weston-Betts for organising!
The Wizard of Oz!
WOW! What a show! Our Legat girls absolutely smashed their Wizard of Oz performance. The Dorter girls do us proud in Legat, with over half of the Legat company in Dorter, it is a brilliant achievement for them all to be able to show off their pure brilliance on stage.
From the Dorter "All Star" Rainbow ballet, to (birthday girl) Mila transforming into the bopping scarecrow, Stunning Lara arriving in her pink bubble as Glinda and then Dance Captain Caitlin lauding over her subjects as the Wizard, before flying off into the sunset on her Hot Air Balloon, they all should be so proud!
Massive round of applause to Georgie, Lexie, Frankie, Clara, Angel, Mila, Hannah, Blanche, Lara, Phoebe, Maddie! You all did us proud up there!
Dorter Family Christmas Celebration
In Dorter House, we love all things Christmas, so what better way to kick off this years christmas celebrations than to share a lovely evening with some of our girls families?!
We had Hot Chocolate, Mulled Wine (for the adults), Mince Pies, Beautiful Christmas Carols and our amazing Christmas Quiz!
Miss Logan worked really hard to make the event a great success and we think that it will now become a staple on our Dorter Calendar. Big thank and love to all the girls who helped out and our beautiful singers!
Dorter Formal
On Monday night, Dorter turned on the glam for our ‘Classic Hollywood’ themed Formal event. Our Evening Song was started by a beautiful performance by Brooke Castree having a starting solo with Jerusalem, followed by a bible reading by Frankie Eve, Mila performed a touching poem around the idea of family which was the theme of the night. Thank you for a wonderful Evensong chapel service.
Upon entering our main event, we were greeted by Siena Jocic singing accompanied by Ming Ng on the piano. Siena followed this with a solo performance. Stud House boys acted as our servers and delivered us a beautiful dinner while Albina Milovidova, our beloved Head of House, welcomed us to the event. Esther Bloom and Brooke Castree both delivered stunning solo performances, with Charis Cheung and Maya Goswami delivering a mighty duet. Table games of ‘ Guess the Prefect’ from a selection of baby baby photos was a huge success along with our Little Miss Awards. Our Keynote speaker, Miss Guntrip, delivered a powerful and impactful speech centred around the importance of kindness and reflected on how being kind and true to yourself were incredibly important. In her Head of House speech, Albina reflected upon her time at Bede’s and her progress within Dorter house before our wonderful Housemistress, Mrs Rachel Weston-Betts, concluded the evening with a closing speech which continued on the theme of family and how important those bonds are in in Dorter. Everyone had a fabulous time and the girls were complimented by the visiting staff on their impeccable behaviour.
Halloween Festivities and Games Night.
After returning from Half term, we decided to continue our celebrations into our first Wednesday treat night with fun Halloween themed activities. The Dorter house fully embraced the activities and had plenty of fun bobbing for apples, dressing as a mummy competition, doughnuts on string and a fabulous sweet hunt.
Dorter Hoodies
It's the day that every Dorter Girl waits for.... the arrival of the Hoodies! Now every girl in Dorter is "repping the merch" and representing Dorter proudly!
Oktoberfest
Dorter have become known for hosting ‘Oktober Fest’. This annual tradition was started by Mr Rohmer a couple of years ago and it is now an annual Dorter event. Oktoberfest is a celebration of all things German and especially the food. We invited Camberlot house to join us in our celebration. Katrin, one of our resident German students, led the team.
Our U5 took on the pumpkin carving this year!
Lead by Miss Harris, a crack and creative team consisting of Lulu, Sakura, Clara, Angel and Ellie worked their socks off to create a stunning pumpkin.
We came 6th overall but we won in spirit!
Another one of our yearly events is the House Music! This year we were teamed up with Dorms to create our "Dortorms" group!
Our big song was a rousing rendition of "Proud Mary" by Whitney Houston, lead by our house choir of Brooke, Amelie, Nadja, Jolie, Ariel amongst others. It was so good that we WON the Big Song catagory!
Maya then smashed the solo, plus Amelie & Charis carried the house band and closed the brilliant event!
We didn't win BUT we all agree that we were robbed!
Lead by our EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) Committee, we recognised Black History Month in Dorter House. We had an informative house assembly, lead by Lily Dale & Jolie Davis.
We also had a brilliant Cook Out in Dorms (using the massive kitchen) where we had Jollof Rice & Fish Cakes served up, all washed down with a Ginger Beer. It was very successful and raised money for charity! Well done to Lily for really taking the lead on this and for Jolie for cooking some stunning Fish Cakes.
The House Comps have been coming in thick and fast! Next on the list was our Cross Country event. We were doing the sun dance to make sure the course wasn't muddy and it really delivered!
We had a great time with some of our girls getting into the top 10! No matter where we came, it was great to get outside and run around the stunning Sussex Countryside!
To say we got lucky was an understatement. We chose the MOST beautiful day to go to the MOST beautiful and iconic location in Sussex.
We went to South Hill Barn in Seaford. This might not sound glamorous but South Hill Barn is the gateway to one of the most famous views in the UK, the Seven Sisters!! After this we went to Cuckmere Haven beach and enjoyed a lovely picnic overlooking the sea. Finally we went back up to the barn to enjoy a drink and a snack at the coffee shack. Lovely day all round full of laughter and fun!
In what seems like a string of Calendar favorites, next up we have Bede's Fest!
This is a fantastic event, where all our families and Dorter family members come together for a festival on the lawn. Eating beautiful BBQ food, enjoying our soft drinks from the bar, whilst playing games, cuddling doggies and listening to brilliant music. It was yet another scorcher, so we all gathered under the shade of the tree's and kept hydrated!
Another staple on the school calendar is the Colour Run. Essentially, we run and teachers throw paint at us, it a lot more fun than it sounds and it makes for some incredible photos!
We had an amazing time, although Matron wasn't best pleased when she saw the amount of washing that needed to be done! We did our house proud, yet again!
We'll feature some of the photos here but the full photos can be viewed here (only students can view the full photos)
For the first of this years hotly contended "House Competitions" we took part in the Amazing Race!
This saw teams of 5-7 girls going from event to event to try to win! We had successes in the Food Cherardes, Inflatable Course, The Quiz and many others.
It was an incredibly hot day and the girls did incredibly well, showing resilience and bravery! Mrs Weston-Betts was lucky enough to tour the whole competition and see all our girls in the fighting spirit. We didn't just played well, we also played fair!
First few lessons...? Power cut...? Completed it mate!
Now we've had our first few lessons of the year and a 3 hour power cut, we thought we deserved Ice Cream!
Miss Logan put on a fantastic feast with loads of toppings, sauces and ice cream (including Vegan friendly options). It was the perfect way to cool down in our current tropical weather!
(excuse the blurry photos, it was dark inside because of the power cut!)
As is first week tradition in Dorter, we had out annual speed friending event. This is a great chance for us all to get to know everybody in this years Dorter Family.
With questions like "What's your favourite Subject?" to "Who is your celebrity crush?" we had lots of giggles and lots of talking!
"It was so nice to meet all the new girls in Dorter, they are so friendly and lovely."
"It's amazing how many people have a crush on Chris Hemsworth.... I hoped it was just me!"
Is there a better way to round off our first day than a fire pit? We had marshmallows, chocolate digestives and other treats! It was meet all the other Dorter Girls and have a lovely evening in the sun!
After a day full of information and induction, it was nice to just chill.
"Our Dorter Family makes this house a home!"
"The place looks so clean!"
"The new house look will make the family feel come alive."
"I love the plants, so relaxing!"
A selection of quotes from our Dorter Girls.
Throughout the summer, the school estates team have been busy transforming Dorter and the end result is stunning!
Our Dorter Refurb Team chose well. Now our girls can relax on our relaxing new sofa's, watch movies on our new 70" TV. Sip Nespresso Coffee while studying hard on the brand new desks, next to our new greenary or enjoy a some smores on the new fire pit!
Whatever you enjoy, the house has transformed and we are now the ones who get to enjoy it!
