Our department thrives because of community. This page is here to keep families updated on opportunities to get involved, support our performers and technicians, and help maintain the creative momentum that makes BHS Theatre what it is.
We update this page regularly throughout the school year. If you ever have questions, please reach out!
Our productions run on artistry, student leadership, and parent support. Here are the main areas where parent volunteers make the biggest impact:
When: Fall, Winter, and Spring shows (arrive about 45 minutes before curtain)
Sell candy and snacks before the show and at intermission
Help with simple set-up and clean-up
Why it matters: Concessions fundraising helps pay for scripts, costumes, sets, and Thespian activities.
Candy Donations: We gladly accept donations of individually wrapped candy to sell at intermission.
When: Tech Week and Performances
Supervise actors in the green room
Help keep dressing rooms organized
Assist with quick, simple fix-ups (safety pins, hair, costume pieces)
Why it matters: A calm, supervised backstage makes magic possible onstage.
Regionals (First Week of February)
Students compete in acting, musical theatre, technical theatre, and design events. This is the first step toward possible State and International recognition.
Chaperone needs:
Travel support
Student group supervision
Help coordinating meals and check-ins
State Thespian Festival (First or Second Week of April)
A three-day overnight event in Salem with workshops, shows, competitions, and scholarship opportunities.
Chaperone needs:
Overnight supervision
Help moving luggage, props, and costumes
Workshop and performance check-ins
General student support and safety
When: All year; especially important as we prepare to move into the new building.
Sorting costumes and props
Simple repairs
Boxing and labeling items
Helping with inventory
No sewing experience required—though sewing skills are always a bonus!
Do you have skills in carpentry, painting, sewing, hair/makeup, event planning, photography, graphic design, or organization?
We often have one-day tasks or short projects during set builds, tech preparation, or department clean-ups where your expertise could be a huge help.
The Regional Acting Competition is one of the largest Oregon Thespians events, involving students from around the state. It is the first step toward performing in the State Showcase and possibly the International Thespian Festival.
Note: Regionals is not a public performance; parents typically attend as volunteers rather than audience members.

It’s Regionals Season!
The Regional Acting Competition is one of the largest Oregon Thespians events, involving a large number of students participating in three regions around the state. In the context of Oregon Thespians’ annual roster of events, this is the first step in a student’s effort to be selected to participate in the State Showcase during the State Festival, and qualify to participate in the International Thespian Excellence Awards Showcase auditions at the International Thespian Festival in June.
Students have selected their category, from solo musical to Dramatic solo acting, and everything in between!

I grew up next to the original Renaissance Faire in Agoura, CA. There, I fell in love with theater at the Ren Faire, built an acting career, and made life-long friendships. I want my students to have that opportunity as well.
The Faire is like no other modern acting space. It's an immersive theatrical world that allows actors and audience to play many characters, often at the same time. It's both old and new, and still relevant. I see Faire as one of the best places for students to stretch and play in a safe.
Each Summer, we pack up our stage and go play at several local Renaissance Faires. It's a blast for parents and students.
