About Us

We Are Troupe #1634

We are Troupe #1634, one of the many troupes in the International Thespian Society! In other words, we are Beaverton High School's extracurricular drama program. We are advised by Shannon Dery, and headed by a Thespian Council of student leaders. Each year we perform a musical, a One Acts festival, a student-directed production, at least one non-musical play, and more!

What is ITS?

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the Educational Theatre Association’s student honorary organization. ITS recognizes the achievements of both middle and high school theatre students. Since 1929, EdTA has inducted more than 2 million Thespians into ITS. That number continues to grow, with more than 36,000 students from around the country being inducted each year

How does ITS work?

A school has a Thespian troupe that is led by a troupe director—usually the school’s theatre teacher. Students earn an invitation to be inducted into the Thespian Society by participating in shows, both onstage and behind the curtains. Having a Thespian Society troupe at your school raises the profile and stature of your theatre program, making both your school and community aware of the activities and success of your students. If you are committed to Beaverton High's theater program until the end of the school year, you can become inducted!

What are Thespians?

Thespians are actors and crew! Thespian troupes include students grades 9-12, and Junior Thespian troupes include students grades 6-8. There are troupes in more than 4,000 high schools and middle schools! A few of our Thespian alumni are famous names from the entertainment industry, including Tom Hanks, Val Kilmer, James Marsters, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Stephen Schwartz. But most Thespian alumni are in just about any industry you can imagine and excel using skills they learned as Thespians. BHS is the proud home of Thespian Troupe #1634!

The Point System

Thespians work under thespian points. Points are determined by how many hours you spend in drama. 10 hours is equivalent to 1 point, and achieving different numbers of points gets you different things. For example, 10 points (100 hours) gets you an induction, and 40 points gets you a letter. Points also determine eligibility for State.
