Day 1: Idea Generation

The class will watch this video. As you watch, think about the following:

  • What pitfalls does the group encounter?
  • How do they avoid or fix them?
  • If your group is struggling, consider taking a fairy tale or popular short story and translating it into a school setting.

Your output will be a one sentence pitch for your movie idea. It needs to be something that you can reasonably film in school in two class periods.

Day 2: Story Arc

Today you will start to take your film idea and make it into a real story. At the minimum your story should have a beginning, middle, and end but more interesting stories will have a rising action that builds to a great climax or fight scene. Use this story arc to figure that out. The best way is to start with the most intense part of your story. After you have that worked out, figure out how your story will build to that moment.

Day 3: Storyboard & Script

It's time to make one more step toward making your film a reality.

One person will need a copy of this presentation. Share it with the rest of your group - even if they're not here today.

You may need a few pieces of paper. Work on filling out the presentation. Sketch each shot that you will need to make for each scene. Write a simple script in the grey column. Add notes about which props or links to other images your group will need. Turn it in as a PDF when you're finished with your ideas.

Day 4: Shot List & Logistics

Today is a big day. Have one person make a copy of the shot list and share it with the group.

Your task is to plan out the order in which you will shoot your film. Remember you have TWO CLASS PERIODS to get this done.

You also need to turn in your story arc, storyboard and this assignment before you're allowed to film in school

B Day will film during class on 12/9 and 12/11, rehearsal on 12/5

A Day will film during class on 12/6 and 12/10, rehearsal on 12/4

You might not be able to rehearse in the location you will be filming. Plan on that.

Make any necessary arrangements with teachers beforehand. Plan on a back up in case they say no. Please check with me about filming locations before you turn in your work. Make a list of props, costumes and other things that people are responsible to bring.

Day 5: Work Day

Today is a day to get caught up and turn in any missing work. You won't be able to film until you have each of the following:

  • Story Arc
  • Story Board & Script
  • Shot List

Day 6: Rehearsal

Use today as a day to prepare for filming. Make sure everyone is on the same page and knows their role. That way you'll be able to take full advantage of the two days you have to film!

Days 7 & 8

These are your only two days to film. Stay on task and use time wisely!

Days 9 - 11: Editing
