Writing workshop is a time for students to learn how to write. Students participate as a community to learn what good writers do to communicate with their readers.
Writers’ Workshop is used in my classroom daily with low teacher support. During this time, I present a new skill; the students attempt to use this skill as they write their stories, with the teacher conferencing with students during and after the writing process.
The purpose of Reading Group is to help students understand the meaning of texts, monitor their reading, maintain fluency and phrasing, and decode words while reading continuous texts. My job as a teacher is to help students think within, beyond, and about the texts in my mini-lessons. During independent reading, I monitor student behaviors to justify high to low teacher support by assessing students' knowledge of meaning-making and the text's visual and/or structure.
Interactive writing involves high to low teacher support. This process allows for more student interaction as the teacher writes with the students to create a writing piece.
