MON SEPT 10

BW: Use this map to answer the following questions: 1)In which part of the country is the most industrial and steel manufacturing taking place? 2) As steel production increased, what happened with manufacturing jobs? 3) During this time, what happened to the Urban (city) population?

Class: Reviewed last Friday's quiz to clarify any misconceptions. Then took notes over these slides. While this is not a graded assignment it is to your benefit to have them done by Friday.


TUES SEPT 11

BW: 1) (review from yesterday) Why are cities growing from 1870-1910's? 2) pg 553 Read the section "Feeding Cities" then answer with 4 bullet points- What breakthroughs helped feed cities during this time?

Class: Students worked in their table groups to create 1 Slide Summaries of a portion of text about life during the turn of the century. Tomorrow, students will present to the class. If you were absent, there is no assignment to make-up besides bellwork.

WEDS SEPT 12

BW: Watch the first 8 minutes of this video about 1900. Then, list 2 or 3 push factors for why people would come to the cities, and 2 or 3 pull factors for why people would come to the cities.

Class: 2nd period had a class meeting today, so they have no BW or Classwork.

4th period: Groups presented their slides while students took notes.

6th period: Groups presented their slides while students took notes.

We also took sometime to talk about the new musical style of Ragtime. Please watch this video and listen to a portion (or all) of this one.


THURS SEPT 13

BW: Watch the first 4 minutes (to the fade out) of this video to answer the following question: How is society changing around the turn on the century?

Class:

ALL CLASSES- took notes on the following 3 slides. These are important concepts to understand the difference between. If you would like further explanation, please don't hesitate to ask Ms. C

2nd Period-Students did their 1 Slide Summary presentations today, they are available here for notes.

4th and 6th-Students had the choice to work alone, with a partner, or with their table group to complete the political cartoon analysis assignment up in GClassroom. Students who did not finish in class have homework as it is due tomorrow.

FRI SEPT 14

Class: Students took their quiz (if absent, see Ms C for a time to make it up), then there was the small book assignment: pg 514 "Government and Big Business" 1) Why did the Government practice Laissez-Faire policies during this time? 2) Why is the Sherman Anti-Trust Act brought into being? 3) Is it successful? Why/why not?
