Your made it to Senior year! Pay attention to school announcements regarding College and Career events hosted by BHS. Keep track of deadlines for the college application process. If you are unsure where to begin, reach out to your counselor to discuss your options.
Summer Before Senior Year
Join the Google Classroom for your specific graduation year.
Join the College and Career Google Classroom (Code: ru7c3us). It is updated most weeks with new scholarship opportunities.
Begin researching the admissions qualifications and acceptance history, including GPA and test scores, for the college(s) of your choice. Utilize CaliforniaColleges.edu and Aeries to review your academic record, determine any areas in which you may need to improve, and get suggestions on how to strengthen your candidacy for the schools you are considering. Please utilize your CaliforniaColleges.edu account to apply to colleges and complete the FAFSA/CADAA
Maintain or improve your grades. Colleges look closely at your 11th-grade year, including grades and courses taken.
Review the schedules for the SAT and SAT Subject Test, ACT with Writing, and AP exams, and create a tentative testing timeline for yourself. Determine if you should take these exams and how they could benefit you. If so, register early and prepare for the exams you decide to take. SAT and ACT is *not* required for community college and most universities are test optional.
August 1- UC Application and Common Application open. For UC, you may begin filling out the application, but the submission window is between November 1-30th. Look at the UC Personal Insight Questions link for more information.
- Take the interest surveys, work on your resumé, and add colleges to "Colleges I am Thinking About" in Naviance.
- Start thinking about your college essays (if required) and drafting ideas.
August 1st– November 30th
Complete the FAFSA/CADAA starting October 1st-March 2nd.
You will need to submit this application every year you are attending a community college, 4 year college/university, or trade school.
University of California (UC) Application opens August 1st. Application submission window begins Ocotober1st-Novemeber 30th. Complete your UC college applications during this time.

California State University (CSU) application window is open Ocotober1st-Novemebr 30th.
Apply to CSU Schools via CaliforniaColleges.edu.
Attend the College Information events on campus to get information about the college application process! Watch for announcements posted on your graduating class Google Classroom.
October 1: CSU application window opens.
October 1: Application for Financial Aid opens today (FAFSA or CADAA)
November 1: UC application window opens to apply.
November 30: Application deadline for UC and CSU applications.
December 17-19: Finals week for Semester One
- Read your emails for counseling and college information and updates.
- Attend college visits in the College & Career Center (sign up prior on Naviance). Many schools will be doing virtual events this year.
- Narrow your college list.
- Enter your list of colleges in Naviance –keep this list updated as you make changes, add/delete applications.
- If required by the colleges you are applying to, request letters of recommendation from teachers and counselor.
- Research the SAT/ACT policies for the colleges on your list. If needed, register for October or November SAT, ACT, or Subject tests. SAT offered at Cal in October!
- Attend Financial Aid Night in October –may be virtual.
- Get started on FAFSA or CADAA application. Deadline is March 2.
- Complete CSS (College Scholarship Service) Profile, if required.
- Edit and begin submitting your college applications.
- Request transcripts to be sent to colleges in Naviance, if required.
January: Cap and Gown vendor typically visits after Winter Break to take orders for graduation announcements and caps and gowns before the price increases. Be on the lookout for announcements in Google Classroom!
- Apply for scholarships. Search Naviance, daily announcements, and the College & Career Center for updated scholarship lists.
- Submit financial aid information for colleges, paying attention to due dates.
- If admitted to a college Early Decision, you must withdraw all other applications.
- Attend Community College information sessions
December – January
Continue to search and apply for scholarships.
May 1: Deadline to file Statement of Intent for college of choice, for most colleges.
May 4-15: AP Testing
May 4-8: Complete Senior Survey posted in Google Classroom, Senior checkout info.
May TBD: Senior Awards- A special event where we acknowledge students who have received prestigious scholarships and awards for college.
May 26- May 29: Finals Week for Semester Two
June 4: Graduation
- If you are waitlisted, visit the Counseling Office to discuss recommended steps.
- Write thank you notes to those who helped you with your application process. Let the people who wrote your letters know where you were accepted and where you are attending!
- Take required placement tests by the colleges/universities.
- Ensure your AP scores are sent, if applicable.
- Complete BHS Senior Graduation Survey and request your final transcript be sent to the college you are attending via parchment.
- Celebrate your graduation!
		February – March
Continue to search and apply for scholarships.
Monitor your email account for college acceptance and financial aid award notifications. Compare the financial aid awards you receive.
Maintain or improve your grades.
April – May
May 1st is College Signing Day- Deadline for most 4 year colleges.
Attend the BHS College and Career Singing Day Event on May 1st.
Maintain or improve your grades.
Take AP Test in May.
June
Happy Graduation!
Contact College Board for AP scores, and contact the college you took Dual/Concurrent Credit classes from for your college transcripts.
Send your final transcripts to 4 year colleges. Request them on parchment.com
Summer before College
Complete any outstanding tasks from the 4 year university/college you plan to attend.
