Madeline Brown

Hello! My name is Madeline Brown and I am in Honors Studio Art IV for the years 2019-2020. I have always been interested in participating in the Studio Art Program at Beaumont since I was a little girl. The moment I was accepted into Beaumont, I cried tears of joy and immediately thought of the beautiful work I would make

I do not have a preferred medium when it comes to my art, but when I comes to painting I mostly use acrylic and I mostly use low-fire ceramics for my three-dimensional art. Since I am going into an Art Therapy and Education field, I need to have a grasp on all Visual Arts mediums and be able to use these mediums to help people express abstract emotion.

I want to go into Art Therapy and Art Education because my entire life has been positively changed by people within these fields. At the age of five, I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Since a young age, I participated in musical, physical, occupational, speech, and art therapy. No other therapy truly struck me as significantly as Art Therapy. I have always used my hands to communicate and being able to work with my hands to make art that expressed what I have been feeling helped me to use my words so that I could describe what my art was about. It also taught me how to take criticism, give feedback, and how to use these skills to be an independent young adult. I strongly believe that if I never had Art Therapy I would not even be considering college today, let alone be going to a College-Prep high school.

Art Therapy and Art Education has helped me become the person I am today. I am going into this field because I believe that it is the only way I can give back to this wonderful community. When i go into these majors, my goal is to help people, especially younger children, to see their untapped potential and open up their feelings.

I hope that you enjoy my works and that you gain inspiration from them!
