Senior Pieces

Freedom to create. My final year of studio

If You Love Me...

Oil Paint

This piece began as a dedication to my younger sister. But as I began to paint my reference picture on this canvas, the concept and meaning transformed. My dog was put down the spring of 2019, she was a part of my life since the age of four, I was the one who picked her out of the litter. The creation of this painting gave me closure, and encouraged me to release my sorrow. My younger sister is shown with the clasp of a leash in her hand, my dog untied to us and the world.

Watercolor paint

A physical and symbolic depiction of a bond. A replica of a drawing made from my great grandmother True, my namesake. Both my great grandmother's drawing and my painting depicts my siblings and I on top of each other, enjoying the presence of each other.

Together

Ink Marker on Paper

The bond we feel with others doesn't always have to be physical, the presence of each other can be just as comforting. I depict in these four illustrations the bond of sisterhood, through the stillness and quietness of each others presence. The studious nature of their work connects them together. And the technique used in the illustration bond connect the pieces together.

Wire, Wood, Clay, Hot glue

A sculptural piece on the relationship between my older sister and I. We are both stubborn unmovable trees unable to submit to the other. Yet we both have deep, intertwined, meaningful connections, represented by the roots of the tree.

Oil Paint and Charcoal

The bond we feel with others doesn't always have to be positive. In this piece, I illustrate the effect of negative bonds. The dark blank areas on the canvas represent times of depression. The lips are juxtaposed by color and charcoal, representing how harmful relationships can be both sweet and sour.
