Our Team

Founded in the fall of 2021 by a newly certified court reporter in the State of Washington, Beast Mode Steno Camp began as a casual coaching service for upper-speed court reporting students.  

April Biedermann, WA CCR, RSR, began coaching her fellow friends and classmates from court reporting school, as well as other students she knew from her internships with Ana Fatima Costa's Mock Woman Apprenticeships at BerkeleyLaw, UC Berkeley's law school in California.  She began her individualized coaching by using a Google Docs document for each student and soon realized it was clumsy and visually unappealing, so she navigated her assignments and learning modalities to a private LMS.  

Having studied the pedagogy of foreign language acquisition in college to become a high school French and Spanish teacher, April brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to her instruction.  

Steno is a language, just like any foreign language found in academia, and she approaches stenography just like she would approach studying (yet another) foreign language.  That, coupled with her infinite patience and determination to explain a lesson in a myriad of ways until her client truly gets it, sets April apart from other teachers/instructors in any subject, not just steno.  

April is realistic about her own knowledge base and limitations.  She is willing to admit when she does not know something.  And, lucky for us, she has an extensive personal and professional network of veteran reporters; college professors; and academic, career, and life coaches.  Rest assured that if April and the team cannot personally help you with something, she will find the person who can, and will learn right alongside you!
