Take Action
For GO Night this year, we had to pick an issue that we found in the world and educate people about the issue along with helping out ourselves. My group and I chose farm animal exploitation which is a very prominent issue throughout the world. We volunteered at a rescue farm and also donated various items to the farm. We had to then create a formal presentation about the issue and the work we did to help solve the issue. This project is significant to my sophomore year because it opened my eyes on how I can help issues in the world myself. We also put so much work into this project which makes it memorable.
This presentation connects to the JAGS pillar Take Action as we not only had to create a presentation but also volunteer on the farm ourselves. We went to the farm multiple times for hours and did work such as cleaning out the barns and bringing donations in. We took action to help the problem ourselves as teenagers which helped me realize that anyone can help even if they are young which is why this presentation is one of my best works of the year.
Take Action & Recognize Perspectives
In English this year, my group and I had did the Thank You porject/challenge which recognized the hard work of labor and delivery nurses. We connected with these workers as our family friend is one herself and works tirelessly. We decided to create a thank you basket filled with goodies and bake cookies to give to them as a thank you.
This presentation/project connects to the JAGS pillars Take Action and Recognize Perspectives as we took action to thank them for their work even though it is often overlooked and we also recognized their perspective of working long shifts most days. This project was significant to my sophomore year because I learned how to understand and appreciate people more.
Investigate the World
In APUSH this year, we had a project where we had to describe different parts of the industrialization of America. We had to create a poster about it and give supporting documents to each cause. This project was one of my best works from this class as it showcased the type of work we did in the class and represented my hard work throughout the year.
This poster connects to the JAGS pillar Investigate the World as I had to research the past in America and the countries we used to trade with. I got to understand in depth how America became how it is today which gave me a deeper global perspective.
Investigate the World & Communicate Ideas
In Spanish 4 this year, we had to research an article which was written fully in Spanish and write down some critical information from the article we read. This research assignment was one of my best works of this class as we not only had to read in Spanish, but we then had to write in Spanish ourselves which demonstrated my skills in the class.
This project connects to the JAGS pillars Investigate the World and Communicate Ideas because I got to investigate what goes on in Spanish speaking countries and communicate it to others through my project.
Communicate Ideas
For Chemistry this year, we had to pick a craft to do to demonstrate the mole number. I chose to do the ceiling tile project and paint it to show the number. This project is one of my best works from chemistry as it took me a long time to create it and I got to demonstrate my work.
This project connects to the JAGS pillar Communicate Ideas because I got to teach people about the number through my own work. I got to communicate my work to others with this project which makes it so significant to my sophomore year.
Communicate Ideas & Recognize Perspectives
For Summit night this year, we created a documentary where we explored a certain topic at a global scale. My group and I chose to do music around the world and research the impacts music has in 3 different countries. The countries we chose were America, Spain, and Poland. I was the main editor for the documentary so I put hours and hours into this documentary which is what makes it important and memorable to my sophomore year.
This documentary project connects to the JAGS pillar Communicate Ideas and Recognize Perspectives as I got to communicate how music impacts people in different countries through my documentaryu
Communicate Ideas & Recognize Perspectives
For our trip sophomore year we went to Costa Rica, we had to pick two countries to research and present to others. My partners and I picked Peru and Venezuela and learned so much about both countries. We not only had to learn about the countries ourselves but we had to demonstrate our understanding of them to others by presenting the information that we learned. This presentation was significant to my freshman year as it was my first time presenting something so big and it began my more global perspective of life.
This trip connects to the JAGS pillars Communicate Ideas and Recognize Perspectives as I had to go out and research about two countries I previously knew nothing about. I learned about the issues the countries face, the history behind the countries, and began to see the world on a more global level. This is one of my best works from freshman year because it truly started my JAGS journey.
