Artifact Title: Thank you Challenge
Completion Date: First Quarter
Teacher: Mrs. Muckley, JAGS Accelerated English 10
JAGS Pillar: Take Action & Recognize Perspective
During Mrs. Muckley's English class, we completed multiple projects, however, my favorite project we completed was the Thank You Challenge. With this project, we were challenged to find a group in the school or community that played an important role in the community. Throughout the project, we had to do research on groups that we thought were underappreciated and appreciated for all that they did. My group chose to focus on lunch ladies because they power our school and keep students fed. The requirements for the project were to find someone to help, communicate the best way we could, get supplies, create a gift, deliver the gift, and finally create a presentation for the class to detail what we did. For the lunch ladies, we thought of what the best way we could show our thanks, and we decided on fall-themed gift baskets. For my contribution, I baked two types of cookies for each lunch lady, and I bought fall-themed mugs that we filled with candy. We then encouraged all of our classmates and fellow Jags students to write thank-you cards for the lunch ladies that we included with our baskets. Through this project, I took action and recognized perspectives by creating a solution to a specific problem. I identified that lunch ladies were underappreciated for all they did, and I created a gift to show our appreciation and properly thank them. I also communicated ideas through my presentation for the class and the thank-you cards we made for the lunch ladies. Overall, this project made me a better JAGS student as I fully understood the importance of service and how impactful a simple act could be to an individual.

Artifact Title: La Familia Camillos
Completion Date: Fourth Quarter
Teacher: Señor Fradl, Spanish 3
JAGS Pillar: Communicate Ideas & Investigate the World
During my sophomore year, I took Spanish 3 with Señor Fradl. The highlight of my Spanish class was working in families. Senor drew popsicle sticks out of a cup to make our families. We kept these families for the entirety of the year. With our families, we worked on multiple projects. For this specific artifact, I used my family's Google Slides. The requirements included no words, visuals, and a brief background on each family member. I really enjoyed this project because we had the opportunity to be as creative as we wanted in creating our backstories and interests. My name was Rosa Camillos, and I enjoyed reading and baking. I really liked that they put us into families because I did not have any friends in my Spanish class, but the families forced us to make three other new friends. I also really enjoyed this class because of Senor Fradl, he made the class so fun with his jokes, personal stories, and love for all the students. I was able to become particularly close with Senor as we both had a passion for soccer. I was able to connect the pillars of communicating ideas and investigating the world for my Spanish family. For Spanish and learning a new language in general, communication is extremely important. For our family project, we were not able to speak English for the majority of the time. So when it came to completing assignments and projects, we had to really focus on communicating to get the grades we wanted. We also investigated the world by learning more about the Spanish culture to make our family as realistic as possible. Overall, I became a better JAGS student as I can work better with others, and I am better at speaking and working with other languages.

Artifact Title: Prohibition Radio Station
Completion Date: Third Quarter
Teacher: Mr. Taray, AP US History
JAGS Pillar: Communicate Ideas & Recognize Perspectives
Sophomore year, I took my first AP class, AP US History, with Mr. Taray. This class was a challenge for me, with the amount of homework and historical knowledge that was expected to be recalled. I chose this particular artifact because it was my favorite project we did. Mr. Taray gave us the assignment of creating a radio channel to report on an important debate/ issue from the 1920s. We had to make our radio show five minutes or longer and make it very entertaining for the class. For this project, my group and I chose to focus on prohibition because it seemed to be one of the largest issues facing the time period. On our radio station, we focused on two main prohibition leaders, Cary A. Nation and William H. Sayton. We used these characters to act out a scene where they were debating over alcohol and why they believed it should or should not be allowed. We included fun commercial breaks and "fight" scenes to get our knowledge on probation across. This project was exceptionally fun because it was played in front of the whole class, and everyone was laughing and enjoying the project we made. This project is connected to recognizing perspectives and communicating ideas. We communicated our ideas through our radio station by talking about prohibition in a fun and easily understandable way. We also recognized perspectives by using both a pro-prohibitionist and an anti-prohibitionist, and explored each of their sides to truly show our audience an educated explanation of each side of the argument. Overall, this project gave me an excellent opportunity to become a better JAGS student as it provided me a new opportunity to communicate my Ideas and I was able to gain a deeper historical knowledge.

Artifact Title: GO Night Animal Exploitation
Completion Date: Second Quarter
Teacher: Ms. Arter, Chemistry & JAGS
JAGS Pillar: Communicate Ideas, Investigate the World, Recognize Perspectives, & Take Action
This project we completed holds a special place in my heart. We chose to complete a project on farm animal exploitation, specifically animals in the food industry. I chose this project to represent my chemistry artifact, as we worked closely with Ms. Arter to complete it. This project was very heavy both in subject and workload. For this project, we were required to volunteer, research, and create a presentation. We volunteered at Stahl's
No Harm Farm, a local animal sanctuary in Lake, where we had the opportunity to work with Stacy Stahl. Stacy was an excellent source of information and a truly wonderful person to work with. She had seen the horrors of the animal industry firsthand through the animals she took in. We volunteered at the farm by creating a supply and monetary drive, cleaning out stalls, playing with the animals, and creating a campaign to bring more support and awareness for the farm. Volunteering for this project was probably my favorite because we had the opportunity to play with animals. Now for research, we had to do a lot of research on what exploitation in the animal industry is and which companies are known exploiters. This part of the project was heartbreaking as we had to use videos and images of animals suffering, but it was necessary to get our point across. For the presentation, we presented a story from two donkeys at Stahls' farm, expectation vs reality in the meat industry, previous exploitation cases, legislation, and our solution to helping fix this crisis. This project connects to all four pillars of JAGS. We communicated our ideas through our presentation and social media presence. We recognized perspectives through our interview with Stacy and her husband. We took action through our volunteering and supply drives. Finally, we investigated the world through our research project on the animal industry. This project had the largest impact on making me a better person and a JAGS student. This project has made me more aware of the role I play in animal exploitation and the importance of knowing where my food is coming from. I now research the brands I am purchasing from to make sure I am not continuing the cycle. I am also more aware of how big an impact I can make on others. After our presentation, my family members who were in attendance no longer purchase from the companies that we showed. This project was a fantastic opportunity, and I hope to do more with it in the future.

Artifact Title: Costa Rica 🌺🇨🇷-
Completion Date: Third Quarter
Teacher: Mrs Muckley & Ms. Arter, JAGS
JAGS Pillar: Communicate Ideas & Investigate the World
I was extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to travel globally with JAGS to Costa Rica. Before this trip, I had never been outside of the United States, and this was truly an eye-opening experience. This trip connected us as a JAGS family. I made friendships and became closer to so many of my peers. The amount of memories I made was probably my favorite part. A few of my favorite moments included: conquering my fear of heights on a zipline, killing a GIANT tarantula in our shower on night one, eating the most amazing fruit while white water rafting, and hours of talking on the bus rides. This trip made me a better JAGS student because it gave me the opportunity to see firsthand the difference between the U.S. and other nations. There truly is no better way to learn about the world than traveling. Just being able to experience the culture first hand with interactions with locals and being able to eat their cuisine was amazing. This trip gave me a new appreciation for all of the luxuries and the life I have in the States. However, Costa Rica also gave me an appreciation for a simple life. Pura vida is something you will hear almost every time you talk to a local, and to me, that phrase encapsulated our whole trip. Although the people of Costa Rica may not have as much as I do, they seemed to always be happy and willing to make new friendships with foreigners. This trip made me understand it is not what you have, but it's what you do with it and your outlook on life. This trip connects to the JAGS pillars of communicating ideas and investigating the world. We investigated the world through our experiences and interactions with the locals. We were also able to communicate ideas and recognize perspectives by speaking with the locals and talking amongst ourselves on how we each interpreted our experiences. Overall, travel with JAGS has been my favorite part of the program, and I would recommend anyone who has the chance to travel abroad and fully immerse themselves in a new way of life.
