Mapp v. Ohio Paper
November 8th, 2023 (Fourth Quarter, 2023 )
Senior Year - Recognize Perspectives: Expresses and explains a clear and specific personal perspective on a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon, and describes influences on that perspective.
Government was an interesting class for me. While I enjoyed the class itself and all of the new information I got to learn about, government is a topic that can be viewed differently for everyone hence the reason we have politics. This artifact is a paper that I wrote for my government class this year. It pertained to a court case, Mapp v. Ohio, in sum, the plaintiff, Miss Mapp is suing the state of Ohio due to illegal search and seizure. This project forced me to look into both this court case and ones prior. I had referenced a case that happened 75 year before this incident, Boyd v. United States, where a similar incident happened and the evidence was ruled as inadmissible. This project made me recognize perspectives for both sides of the argument, in addition to researching past cases where similar events had occurred. After I had conducted my research I agreed with the decision that ruled in favor of the plaintiff, putting a permanent stop to illegal search and seizure in the state of Ohio.
Writing this appeals to the ISSN goal of recognizing perspective because I could not come to my own conclusion unless I knew all of the facts of the cases. If I wanted to be a lawyer this is exactly how I would need to think. Despite the fact that I will not be going into law it has still taught me how to think analytically and to consider all of the facts before forming an opinion.

The American Dream Writing Assignment - Sociology
April 1st, 2024 (First Quarter, 2024 )
Senior Year - Recognize Perspectives: Explains how perspectives influence human interactions and understandings of a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon
This project we were tasked with writing about the American Dream, a topic that can have a lot of different definitions. For the first part of my writing assignment I talked about these different definitions. I spoke to what the American Dream is for different people in the United States. One thing that I said in my writing perfectly fits this pillar of JAGS:
While race, class and gender doesn't directly affect your oppertunity, these all play into location and upbringing. Certain races might be more likely to be more populated in poorer areas, this is location. A Female might be raised differently than a male, making their oppertunity less. Different sociological perspectives such as symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and functionalist perspectives can also affect access to the American Dream.
(Dylewski, 2024). In this section I talked about some of the aspects that might affect the American Dream. The American dream is different depending on who you are.
This fits the recognized perspective pillar of JAGS because for this project I had to put myself in the shoes of the people I was looking into. The ultimate goal of this project was to relate the American dream to conflict theory and functionalist perspectives. I took a broad idea and applied it to a vast group of people. This project helped me consider the different economic situations and goals different people are in.

Wooden Table - Wood Working
November 21st, 2023 (Fourth Quarter, 2023 )
Senior Year - Take Action: Identifies and creates opportunities for personal or collaborative actions to address a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon in a way that is likely to improve conditions.
For my senior year I decided to take Wood Working II, I took the first one as a freshman but I never had the time until this year. I love this class as it allows me to get hands on and create something. The first half of the year I spent creating a wooden table. I put a lot of work into the table and to see it all come together was very rewarding. This class was probably one of my favorites throughout high school.
This relates to the take action pillar because I got hands on to accomplish a goal. My table might not be making a difference but through the table I have developed hands on skills that I could use to inspire change. My service capstone I am a founding member of a non-profit for orphanages in Ghana, some of these skills could help me if I ever travel there myself.
