GO Night
November 7th, 2023(Fourth Quarter, 2022)
Junior Year - Recognize Perspectives: Expresses and explains a clear and specific personal perspective on a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon, and describes influences on that perspective.
GO night my junior year wasn’t at all like it was in past years, we participated in a Model UN conference with the seniors. In past years we would always have to prepare a large project but for model UN there isn’t a whole lot you can do to prepare. In our model UN class we focused on how it works and practiced, it was almost as if it was leading up to GO night. During GO night we each had a partner and we were tasked with solving a global issue. There were two issues, one was about Ethiopia but we didn’t really cover that, and the other was about a large war threat. After going through many resolutions and many twists had been added the conference ended up in nuclear war, almost everyone died. This scenario wasn’t real but it forced us to treat it as such.
This appeals to the ISSN goal: recognize perspectives, during the simulation we were forced to put ourselves in the perspective of our country. We were told to act as though our country would, we should do our best to have the same relations as they might. The Model UN class as a whole has forced me to recognize perspectives. In life, recognizing perspectives is the most important thing you can do, the only way to help someone is to understand what they are going through. Everyone should strive to help as many people as they can, the world is already heading in the wrong direction and recognizing that and what other people are going through is now more important than ever.

Comp II Final Paper

Junior Year - Communicate Ideas: Demonstrates an understanding of diverse audiences by communicating and collaborating using verbal and non-verbal behavior, language, and strategies that are appropriate to specific audiences.
English for me has never been a strong subject. For my College Composition class this year we were tasked with researching and then writing our own paper. The semester began with us writing our first essay on our selected topic, I chose student debt in the United States, this essay had us use multiple sources. Our next essay was similar, and finally our third essay we had to find an expert to conduct an interview with and then use the information we learned from them in the paper. For our final paper we had to conduct a survey in order to find out more about our topic. With all of that information we had to collect it all together and use it in one final paper. I found it to be difficult to stay organized with all of the information we had learned over the preceding 18 weeks.
This assignment appeals to the ISSN goal of communicating ideas. Most of the time when we are communicating our professionalism doesn't matter however in some cases it does. This course taught me how to write in a more professional setting, hopefully setting me up in the future. While I don’t need it all that much now in JAGS it has still helped me especially when it comes to writing things such as directives for UN and other such documents.

For me, switching to French Junior year wasn’t a tough decision, I felt as though I didn’t think I wanted to go much farther with Spanish. I felt French was the best option. For one it was already similar to Spanish and I figured that it might help me this year. I think that starting to learn a second language really benefited me, while I still retain some of my spanish knowledge I now also have another language that I have a basic understanding of. At this level it might not help me all that much, it's the concept that matters. This is a daily writing assignment that we have to complete each day with the exception of tests and other such instances. We have been doing this the entire year however it wasn’t until the end where I actually understood it. In daily writing we usually have the day of the week, the date of the month, the weather, and then 3-5 sentences that we would need to translate pertaining to the lesson we were currently on.
This heavily correlates with the pillar of communicating ideas, learning any language is helping your communication skills. For one, it broadens the people I can understand, while it is true that I might never need to be able to communicate with someone who speaks french it is still important to have. In this class I also learned about France and other french speaking countries, I think that has really helped me learn more about different parts of the world. The more you understand the more you will be able to take action against the things that are wrong.

Calc 1 Final Review
April 18th, 2023(Third Quarter, 2023)
Junior Year - Take Action: Reflects on the effectiveness and appropriateness of own actions and advocacy for improvement; describes outcomes of actions and makes note of implications for future action and advocacy.
My Junior year I had decided to take CCP Clac I. I knew how important this class was as it would be a building block for the rest of my life. Math is extremely important and I needed to try my hardest to understand this class. This was my final review, it was a circuit training which is where each answer leads to another question until you eventually come back to the beginning. I plan to be an engineer and so this class was super important, this is probably one of the first classes that I feel like will actually matter for my future. While this class wasn’t overly difficult it did encourage me to work harder, I found this to be one of my busiest years in school and so my time management has improved a lot.
This applies to the ISSN goal of taking action, math is used in almost every field. I know that it will also help me in JAGS. Unlike previous years a lot of the problems had real world applications. In addition math is universally applied to everyone, no matter what language you speak, where you’re from, or what you stand for. Math is relevant. Math brings people together, it is a collection of numbers that everyone can understand.

2022 Golf Season

Junior Year - Take Action: Assesses options and plans actions based on evidence that indicates the potential for impact by evaluating previous approaches, varied perspectives, and/or potential consequences.
Beginning in my freshman year I was on the golf team. To me it was something that I had enjoyed doing. Another reason I did it was because my brother did it and I was following after him. The 2022 season beginning in the fall of 2022 was challenging but fun. It was the most competitive year by far, over 30 kids tried out and only a select 14 made it. Going into tryouts I was nervous because I wasn’t sure I’d be able to beat so many people. Luckily I made the team and I’m glad that I have been a part of it for the last few years. It has taught me so many valuable lessons, it’s something that I would like to continue to work towards to get better.
Golf is a sport where it involves a lot of thought, this is why it is applied to the goal of taking action. Some of the things I’ve learned from golf are that you can’t always take risks, it is sometimes better to take your time or to play it safe. This can be applied to life because you shouldn't always risk things, living this way can be very dangerous. I think that this will stick with me for the rest of my life, it is a lesson that can only be learned the hard way.
