Freshman World History class was so fun because of my teacher, Mr. MarLett. He taught us a lot about different world events in a fun and engaging way. My favorite part of the year was the philosopher's bowl. This was a game based on the Enlightenment era, which also involved football. Mr. MarLett's form of teaching helped me want to learn.
This represents the JAGS pillar of recognizing perspectives because it taught us about the enlightenment era and the different philisophical ideas of that time period.
Biology was quite interesting, as it was interesting to learn about a life science. My favorite part was watching Osmosis Jones. This movie is about a zoo employee who got a severe stomach ache from a contaminated egg. It went through the process of what happened and what made the man feel better. The movie helped me understand how the body works.
This represents the JAGS pillar of recognizing perspectives due to the movie allowing us to see what the man who got sick went through.
During my freshman English class, we worked on genius projects. I chose to make an abstract art piece. I made a geometrical, metallic art piece which included different colors. This project helped me realize that procrastination is not ideal, and that art is not my area of expertise.
This project represents the JAGS pillar of communicating ideas because of the project planning and discussing with others what they planned to do.
During my Freshman year, I started taking Spanish classes here at the high school. I had a nice time learning about Spanish culture and language. We had cultural celebrations in class and a project during Spanish culture month that encapsulated significant parts of Spanish culture. I made rice pudding and it was quite delicious. This project helped me understand Spanish culture a bit better.
This represents the JAGS pillar of recognizing perspectives and cultures because I made a traditional dish commonly eaten in Spanish speaking countries.
My most memorable moment from freshman year was going to Heifer Global Village. I got to go with my friends and enjoy my experience for the most part. I did get to sleep in a cabin that represents what it would be like in the Appalachias for a night with people who I was not friends with initially. We became a bit closer because of this.
This represents the JAGS pillar of recognizing perspectives because we were able to experience what life used to be like for people and the hardships they faced.
