My group and I did a Thank You Project recognizing Mail Carriers and Post Office Workers. I personally connect with this topic as my mom is a mail carrier and has to work crazy hours in crazy conditions, especially during the holidays. We were thanking these workers because of how much effort they truly put into their jobs without anyone realizing it. We made a basket full of candy, chapstick, hand sanitizer, and notes written from people throughout the school.
This project connected to the JAGS Pillars Take Action and Recognize Perspectives. Throughout this project, we took action in trying to help the post office workers out in any way we could by encouraging them with our gift basket. We recognized the work they put into their job, and what makes it such a demanding field to work in. This was significant to my Sophomore year as I learned so many new things while completeing this project, and I also learned just how hard people can work without others understanding.
The documentary, a 4 person project, was the hardest thing I completed during my entire Sophomore year. Titled, "The Importance of Art in Schools", my group and I conducted interviews with people from throughout the world. We did in-depth researched and took trips to local elementary schools to see how art classes are run now. We worked together for nearly 3 months to create a documentary in hope that it would inspire those who watched it. The documentary showed me just how drastically different things like art within schools could be between countries around the world.
I connected with the pillars Communicate Ideas and Investigate The World while completeing this project. I had to communicate with my group members, and those who we interviewed to get proper information and perspectives from throughout the world. With these interviews and research, I'd investigated the world in multiple different ways. seeing the different ways countries could approach art within schools. Overall, this is the most significant part of my History experience because of what was needed to properly complete this project and what lengths we went to to make the documentary perfect.
During the beginning of Sophomore year I completed a group project where we were "Helping Dogs In Ruff Times". This project was much more than we anticipated it to be as we had tons of research to do and also set up a drive. As a group we collected over 500 donations and $131 for the Stark County Humane Society. This project taught be the reward of hardwork from seeing the faces of those who work at the society when we were bringing in load after load of donations all for them.
My GO Night project connects to the JAGS Pillar, Take Action. Throughout our community we took action in collecting donations for the shelter to ensure that the animals living there would have a fulfilled life until gettingĀ adopted. We worked endlessly to create something that we would be proud of for years to come, which makes this the most significant part of my Sophomore year.
I had to complete a project where I went to a Mexican Resturant and tried a new food I never had before. I went to El Rincon and tried their churros and sopapillas. I enjoyed trying these Spanish desserts because I had never tried them before, and it was something that I wasn't used to. As a Sophomore, my year was always very busy, so getting to complete a project involving something as fun and interesting as this a good change in my year.
This connects to the pillar Investigate The World because I was immersing myself into a food culture I was not used to, and I was trying something very new to myself. I realized just how different the food can be around the world even if I was just having it at a local Mexican Resturant. This project was important for my Spanish 2 as I had experienced something new, and had to put myself into different situations.
Costa Rica was the highlight of my sophomore year and I continouly think back to all the experiences I had while traveling. I spent time in the mountains, by the beach, and everywhere in between. I had the chance to go white water rafting, ziplining, take a night hike, visit 2 different beaches, and immerse myself in the culure by trying choclate and multiple different foods.
Throughout the trip I connected to the JAGS Pillars Investigate The World, and Recognize Perspectives. I explored a new country, something I was very unfamiliar with and had wonderful experiences learnng new things about their culture. I recognized how they live their lives day-to-day and what their norms are. This was the best part of my year and the most significant because of the multide of things I got to experience while spending a few days in Costa Rica.
