This year I took 2 semesters of College Composition, with the second semester being focused on researching one social issue. I researched how social media can affect teens, and I conducted an interview with an expert, recieved student opinion through a google form, and did countless hours of researching and writing. Everything came together in the end to create my research paper, a 10 page long paper filled with everything I learned throughout the second semester.
This paper connects to the JAGS Pillar, Recongize Perspectives as I had to take into consideration multiple sides of the argument and get perspectives from a multitude of different people. I had perspectives from students, experts, and even the former U.S. Surgeon General. This paper was the most significant work of my Composition class as without it I wouldn't have had the opportunity to research a topic I care so much about this in depth.
This year in JAGS I particpated in a Model United Nations conference run by Jackson during our Community Breakfast. We did a Europe Crisis for this conference, and I represented Hungary. We made resolutions, talked with other delegates, debated, and passed legislation to try to fix the issues that were being faced. Even though we were just delegates from each country, we had to support what our countries supported and deal with the crisis how each would in the real world.
This conference connects to the pillar Investigate The World as we had to all understand each countries intentions, and what they would truly want from the legisation being brought up in the chamber. I had to understand what Hungary would have wanted, and play by their rules. This was significant to my Junior year because I had to step out of my comfort zone and debate issues that have a real global impact.
I completed an Innocence Project where I looked at one case throughout Ohio where someone was wrongly convicted of a crime they didn't commit. Through this project, I researched a guy from Cleveland, and learned just how easily someone can be wrongly convicted as he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This connects to the JAGS Pillar, Recognize Perspectives and Investigate The World. I recognized the perspectives of both the police officers, and those wrongly convicted. I realized that many people can take issues in different ways, and that someones bias can make a huge difference on the case. I also investigated the issues within the case, and everything that they could have done better while investigating and throughout the trial. I saw many opportunites for those involved with the case to do something else that would have ended in a better outcome for those who did not have anything to do with the crime. This was significant to my Junior year as I saw learned the issues throughout the justice system and just how often issues like this occur all around the world.
This year in Spanish we had families with 3 other people within our class. We sat together all year and worked on every project of the year together. We had to collaborate on many assignments and lead discussions for the whole class to participate. Not only did we have to work together on everything, we became closer friends as the year went on because we were constantly doing something for Spanish.
Spanish this year connects to Communicate Ideas because we had to communicate our opinions on every assignment we worked on this year. We had to ensure that everyones voice was heard and that everyone did what they wanted to do. I managed the website so I had to communicate with my familia members about what to do for each page. This is the most important part of my Spanish experience because of the hard work that had to be put in to make sure everyone was heard.
I took AP Calculus AB this year to try to challenge myself more than I have before. Everything we did throughout this class was to try to prepare ourselves for the AP Test at the end of the year, and I definetly felt more prepared than before after I attended the AP Workshop held by a former AP Calc teacher at Stark State.
This connects to the pillar, Take Action because I took the initative to join this workshop to further my understanding and my resources for the inevitable test at the end of the year. I am very glad that I took the action to do this as it helped me to gain valuable resources that I used to help study for the exam. This is significant to my Junior year because even though we did mutliple reviews throughout the time leading up to the exam, this one seemed to have helped me the most, and I came out of it knowing more than I did going into it.
This soccer season taught me a lot about a ton of different things, and consisted of a million ups and downs. I floated this year so I was playing in both JV and Varsity games, and I had to try my hardest to keep this spot throughout the season. We played many games against rivals that were some of the hardest of the entire season.
My soccer seaon can connect to the pillar, Communicate Ideas as I had to not only talk with my coaches, but also my teammates and the parents throughout the fall. I had to learn to communicate about whats best for the team and how to go about certain things while playing or practicing. This season had a lot of changes and was full of communication to get through the summer months of training and pre-season tournament games. This was significant to my Junior year as I realized that my next season will by my last, so I have to take every chance I get to do something better or communicate with others throughout my team.
