My JAGS Journey
Hi! My name is Alleigh Harper and I am a part of the Jackson Academy of Global Studies at Jackson High School. I chose to do the program because of the opportunities to travel, explore the world, and learn about issues on a global perspective. I am also a part of the Jackson Girls Soccer team, a Co-President of Teens Initative Club, and participate in Math Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, Freshmen Mentors, Spanish Club, and Clothing For a Cause Club. Outside of school I am a soccer coach for my club team, and volunteer throughout the community. I value time spent with my friends and family, doing the things that I enjoy the most! In the future I plan on attending the University of Akron and studying engineering, although I am not sure the specific type just yet.
ALWAYS TAKE THE RISK BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO REGRET IT LATER
The Four Pillars of JAGS
Investigate the World: Throughout my research for my GO Night project, it connects to Investigate The World as I was trying to learn anything and everything about India as a whole. I learned how the people live there, the issues they face, and even endangered species of animals that live there.
Recognize perspectives: On the day trip to Harper's Ferry during Heifer, I saw old battle grounds and towns, and connected to Recongize Perspectives, as I was truly realizng what it was like to live back then. I saw how things were run, and why they were run the way that they were.
Communicate Ideas: My witness statement connects me to the pillar of Communicate Ideas, as I had to commuicate to the rest of my class the experience I was playing, and had to put myself in the shoes as a mother during the Russian Civil War.
Take Action: My Genius Project connects to the JAGS Pillar, Take Action. During the near 3 months working on this project, I took action in setting up activities each week to try to get my neighbors out of their comfort zone and to try to help them learn new skills.
Investigate the World: Throughout the trip in Costa Rica I connected to the JAGS Pillars Investigate The World, and Recognize Perspectives. I explored a new country, something I was very unfamiliar with and had wonderful experiences learnng new things about their culture. I recognized how they live their lives day-to-day and what their norms are.
Recognize perspectives: My Thank You Project connected to the JAGS Pillars Take Action and Recognize Perspectives. Throughout this project, we took action in trying to help the post office workers out in any way we could by encouraging them with our gift basket. We recognized the work they put into their job, and what makes it such a demanding field to work in.
Communicate Ideas: I connected with the pillars Communicate Ideas and Investigate The World while completeing the Documentary. I had to communicate with my group members, and those who we interviewed to get proper information and perspectives from throughout the world. With these interviews and research, I'd investigated the world in multiple different ways. seeing the different ways countries could approach art within schools.
Take Action: My GO Night project connects to the JAGS Pillar, Take Action. Throughout our community we took action in collecting more than 500 donations and $130 for the shelter to ensure that the animals living there would have a fulfilled life until getting adopted.
Investigate the World: The Europe Crisis League Conference connects to the pillar Investigate The World as we had to all understand each countries intentions, and what they would truly want from the legisation being brought up in the chamber. I had to understand what Hungary would have wanted, and play by their rules
Recognize perspectives: My Research Paper connects to the JAGS Pillar Recongize Perspectives as I had to take into consideration multiple sides of the argument and get perspectives from a multitude of different people. I had perspectives from students, experts, and even the former U.S. Surgeon General through my survey, interviews, and research.
Communicate Ideas: My Spanish Familias this year connects to Communicate Ideas because the 4 of us had to communicate our opinions on every assignment we worked on this year. We had to ensure that everyones voice was heard and that everyone did what they wanted to do. I managed the website so I had to communicate with my familia members about what to do for each page.
Take Action: My AP Workshop connects to the pillar, Take Action because I took the initative to join this workshop to further my understanding and my resources for the inevitable test at the end of the year. I am very glad that I took the action to do this as it helped me to gain valuable resources that I used to help study for the exam.
