English
This year, I took my first college English class and learned to find some love for writing. I was nervous going into this class as I struggled with writing, but I am very thankful for my teacher, who helped me enjoy writing. At the end of the semester, we got to write a research paper on a topic of our choice. I chose an issue that is very personal to me and explored how to change the regulations on trans female athletes. This project really allowed me to learn the science behind some claims being made and challenged me to problem solve such a deep issue.
Model UN
Going into Model UN, I was nervous because I didn't really know a lot about what the class would be like. Early in the year, we went to a Model UN conference at Case Western Reserve University. I worked with one of my friends, and we were Belarus and were in the CCPCJ. This experience did allow me to learn a lot about the different committees in the UN. The conference itself was really like being thrown into the deep end of Model UN. It was clear we were not at the level of many of the other students around us. However, this gave us a chance to learn how to Model UN quickly and gave me more confidence in doing other conferences.
Emergency Services
This year, I started my career-tech, emergency services, and started to really understand what I wanted to do in the future. Even though junior year is mainly an introduction to learning to be an EMT and firefighter, I was able to do some ride-alongs with local stations. Having the chance to observe what would eventually be me only confirmed what I wanted to do. I also gained a different perspective on things myself, others, and do in everyday life, and how that may or may not affect first responders. It also allowed me to see underprivileged areas and the issues they face.
Spanish 4
Spanish 4 helped me relearn my passion for learning Spanish and increased my desire to become bilingual. Every 9 weeks, we had to read and summarize 4 news articles from Spanish news sources. This helped me not only improve my reading abilities in Spanish but also learn about issues that were happening in Hispanic countries.
Junior year of football really tested me. I started at a new position and had to work hard to earn playing time and prove myself. Then halfway through the season I would dislocate my finger and that would present its own issues. I would have to relearn how to snap the ball as my finger no longer sat on the ball right. The season really became a mental game and I had to work to get out of my head and just go play. The season would end with Jackson not only taking back the rail from Hoover (the first time in years) and win the Federal League Championship (first time since 2017). It wasn't just me who face adversity throughout the season it was the whole team and we didn't start the way we wanted to. However, by the end of it the season became one of my favorites and I learned so much from it.
