INTENT: to learn what Christians believe about caring for people.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to hear the story of 'The Good Samaritan' and then discuss and act out a series of scenarios showing people needing help.
IMPACT: children will have a greater understanding of Christianity and also know that people of all faiths and none also try to help others.
INTENT: to know how people show they care.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn about people such as Mother Teresa who have made a huge impact on people's lives by offering help and support to them. Children then to discuss ways they have been encouraged and ways they could encourage others in their day-to-day lives.
IMPACT: children will have a greater understanding of how people of different faiths and none, show that they care.
INTENT: I can say why Muslims have respect for Prophet Muhammad.
IMPLEMENTATION: Children identified who the leaders of Beacon Rise, England football team and of the country. Children discussed their roles and that they are someone is a good role model and inspiring. Children were introduced the Prophet Muhammad and that he is the leader of Muslims. They listened to the story of Muhammad and the Cat and discussed his actions and kindness in the story. They went on to act out the story.
IMPACT: Children know that Muhammad is a special leader who is respected by Muslims.
INTENT: I can identify and say what makes a place special.
IMPLEMENTATION: Children thought about a place that is special to them and what makes it important. The class thought about special objects that are important to them and consider why. Children were shown a Qur'an and the Rehal. Alongwith these objects, they were shown a range of objects used by Muslims in prayer and in a Mosque.
IMPACT: Children can identify reasons a place or object might be valued in both a personal and religious context.
INTENT: to know about a mosque.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to be shown pictures of the exterior and interior of a mosque and to learn the names of key features. Children then to hear the experiences of a Muslim child when they visit a mosque for a celebration.
IMPACT: children to be able to identify key features of a mosque.
IINTENT: to know how and why Muslims worship at a mosque.
IMPLEMENTATION: recap the features of a mosque taught in the last lesson. Look more closely at the mosque interior - discuss the significance of the empty spaces and the form the decoration takes. Consider the role of an Imam - what do they do?
IMPACT: children to have a greater understanding of what happens during worship in a mosque.
INTENT: to be able to summarise what has been learnt over the unit about Islam.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to identify and explain the use of a range of objects and features from a mosque and used in Islamic prayer. Children to be able to tell a story about the prophet Muhammad and a detail from his life and teachings.
IMPACT: children to have consolidated and shown evidence for their understanding of Islam.
INTENT: to explain what happened at Easter and how it made people feel.
IMPLEMENTATION: Children to look at each day of Holy Week and discuss how it made people feel and how, ultimately, sadness turned to happiness with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.
IMPACT: children will understand the meaning of Easter and that special festivals can raise mixed emotions.
INTENT: to know that Easter is special to Christians.
IMPLEMENTATION: Recap the events of Holy Week. Discuss the main church services of Easter and objects with special symbolism at this time - a palm leaf, a piece of bread and a glass of wine, a bowl of water and a small towel, a prickly branch woven into a circle, a hot cross bun and an empty cross.
IMPACT: children will be able to identify what makes Easter special to Christians.
We were lucky enough to have an expert to help us pronounce some of the important words and to explain what happens in their home during Ramadan and Eid.
INTENT: to know what Muslims celebrate at Eid.
IMPLEMENTATION: Discuss the importance of Ramadan and the reasons why Muslims fast. Then talk about the celebrations of Eid and the special structure of the day.
IMPACT: the children will understand how and why Muslims celebrate at Eid.
Some children used stippling to colour their eggs.
INTENT: to use symbols of Easter and spring to make a card.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to use symbols of Easter or spring to make a card to celebrate the season.
IMPACT: children will be able to identify symbols of Easter and spring.
We also re-visited the way the shepherd was feeling in the story of The Lost Sheep.
INTENT: to learn some of the lessons Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to consider their class charter. How do these rules compare to the lessons Jesus taught? In groups, children to consider various scenarios and to decide which class rules or lessons from the Sermon on the Mount might apply.
IMPACT: children will understand some of the lessons Jesus taught.
INTENT: to know how to treat holy books.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to be shown different Bibles and copies of the Qur'an and a Torah scroll. How should we handle them? Children to learn how and where different sacred books are kept.
IMPACT: children will know to treat holy books with respect.
The Golden Rule is very important to many religions.
INTENT: to know a story about the prophet Muhammed.
IMPLEMENTATION: discuss the story of Muhammed and the Black Stone. Act the story out in groups and freeze frame key points.
IMPACT: the children will know one of the prophet's stories.
INTENT: to know the meaning behind the story of Jonah and the Whale.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to explore the different spellings of the name Jonah and the fact that versions of the story appearin the sacred texts of three religions: Judaism, Islam and Christianity.
IMPACT: children will know the importance of the story of Jonah and the Whale.
INTENT: to understand the festival of Pentecost.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to watch a video explaining the reasons behind the Christian celebration of Pentecost and the importance of the Holy Trinity and then to answer questions to demonstrate their understanding. Children to extend their celebration by singing the song 'Give Me Oil in My Lamp'.
IMPACT: children will understand the reasons for Pentecost.
INTENT: to understand that the Golden Rule is common to many different religions.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to discuss how and why so many different religions have a version of the Golden Rule and how it relates to our own school rules and class charter.
IMPACT: children will know that many religions promote kindness to others.
