This term, we are studying the artist Vincent Van Gogh and painting our own autumn pictures using his techniques of stippling (pointillism) and his short and long brush strokes.

IINTENT: to explore colours.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to use pencils and crayons to create an autumn leaf.
IMPACT: the children will have been able to use pencils and crayons in drawings.
INTENT: to use the stippling techniques of Vincent Van Gogh in our painting having mixed our own secondary colours.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to first mix their own secondary colours and then to use a combination of stippling and careful brushstrokes to create a painting of a tree in the style of Van Gogh.
IMPACT: children will have been able to use brushstrokes and stippling in a painting and to mix secondary colours.
INTENT: to use autumn colours and a different pencil skill to create a leaf rubbing.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to collect leaves and then experiment with pencils and crayons to create group leaf rubbings in autumnal colours.
IMPACT: the children will have learnt the most effective way to hold a pencil or crayon in order to create a clear leaf rubbing.

INTENT: For children to look at different types of sculpture with a focus on the works of Kenojuak Ashevak.
IMPLEMENTATION:
Children discussed what sculpture is and started to look at how sculptures could be made. They looked at different sculpture artists and learnt all about Kenojuak Ashevak.
IMPACT: Children know who Kenojuak Ashevak is and are able to consider how different sculptures are made and the materials that may have been used.
INTENT: For children to explore the techniques used when 'moulding' a sculpture,
IMPLEMENTATION:
Everyone had a piece of clay and explored the 'moulding' techniques of rolling, pinching, smoothing and so on.
IMPACT: Children have explored 'moulding' techniques and will use this experience to inform the design of their Arctic animal sculpture.
INTENT: For children to create a sculpture in the style of Kenojuak Ashevak.
IMPLEMENTATION:
After a reminder of their designs and the techniques, the children were let loose on the clay to make their fantastic animal sculptures!

Look how clear and bright these primary and secondary colours are!
INTENT: to create a colour wheel using primary and secondary colours.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to paint a colour wheel using the three primary colours and three secondary colours which they have mixed themselves.
IMPACT: children have identified and created key colour wheel elements.
INTENT: to experiment with tints and tones.
IMPLEMENTATION: children to paint a semicircle of one colour and then one line of smaller circles where the colour gradually lightens (tints) and one line of smaller circles where the colour gradually darkens (tones). The children will create the lighter and darker colours themselves by mixing increasing quantities of white and dark grey paint into their original colour.
IMPACT: the children will have learnt how to create different shades of the same basic colour.
INTENT: to plan a space painting.
IMPLEMENTATION: children reacquaint themselves with a range of space artists, including Chesley Bonestell, and then to further explore the work of Peter Thorpe before using shape and colour to plan their own space painting.
IMPACT: children will have planned an effective space painting using Peter Thorpe as an inspiration.
