What is the design thinking process?

To tune into the idea of design thinking we created our own definitions of the elements of design thinking. We then created an icon or symbol that showed our understanding of the word.

Exploring the central idea

To tune into our central idea I thought about the key words and what they meant to me. As a class we shared our thinking. I need to know more about the word "Innovations" as I don't really understand it.

Learning to empathize

I used the thinking routine Parts, People and Interaction to look at the topic of our class case study-online learning. Here is how I think the parts, people interact or are connected. This was to help me empathise with people's points of view.

Finding out people's perspective

6J were put in charge of finding out about the thoughts and feelings about the parent's views on online learning. After making some predictions we came up with some questions. We worked collaboratively which I found challenging as I was sure I had the right idea but it was very different to my classmates. Here is the process we went through.

Liam's backpack invention could be useful but there are some downfalls to it because some people might not listen to it.

Finding out about innovations

I really enjoyed reading the article about Liam, an 11-year-old boy, who designed a computer scanner to ensure that everything got put into his school bag ready for a full day of learning.

What was the impact of online learning on student wellbeing?

To help empathise with the feelings of students I analysed the results of the survey created by 6C. I was particularly interested to read that mainly people liked doing real life school rather than online school. Like me, several respondents felt that they get more distracted at home than school. To find out more I would ask what distractions have disturbed you while online learning?

How are teachers feeling about online learning?

This infographic shows the results of 6B's survey that was given to teachers. I was surprised that most teachers spend 1-2 hours on preparing lessons. I found infographics quite difficult to create because I had to put the information into the graphs and it was a lot of work.

We used these three questions to tune into the idea that for a problem to really be worth thinking about we need to look at it from different perspectives.
