In this story, Mr. Tantillo, Max Elliot, and Jaliyah Pompey were interviewed about last semester’s Social Club outing. It was an amazing experience to interview both of them and learn how fun and exciting it was. Even Gabby Okun, one of our writers for this story, was at the Social Club outing since she was a part of the club itself! It was so fun, and the club had an awesome time together bowling and eating pizza! Everyone was social; we got to enjoy everyone’s company and even interact with friends we made in the Social Club.
Interviewing Mr. Tantillo, he gave his opinions on the outing and said that this outing felt different than the previous Social Club outing. He said, “As a club it felt more connected and special than last year's outing”. This was his second time with the club going to Planet Fun during 2022-2023. He commented how the club built bonds and became closer to each other throughout the semester. Mr. Tantillo also mentioned that there were three people who drove that club to be memorable. They were Syajia Green, Summer Taylor, and Aidan Ciemnicki. These three are known for running the Social Club and who made it possible to have an outing in the first place. to be remembered. They decided to raise money by selling different kinds of croissants at a bakery called Burney's Sweets and More. This fundraiser helped make the outing happen. Mr. Tantillo said, “Because the Social Club was so big, the more people who joined the club, the more help we gained with fundraising and building bonds among the group”. Without the Social Club, it wouldn’t be known for what it is today.
Max Elliot, a sophomore we interviewed, gave us his opinion on the Social Club outing. Before the outing, Social Club was something new for the coming freshman of last year. Max was a freshman during this time and discovered the club while being in Journalism to interview and take pictures of the club with Braydon Sessa; a Journalism and Social Club member. Both of these two joined Social Club because of the relationships that were made in the club, the activities, and even how much the club itself brought people out of their comfort zone. This event made a special impact on Max by going to the event and even got to experience bowling for the first time!
Jaliyah Pompey, a junior we interviewed, gave us her opinion on the Social Club outing. She told us, from what she remembered, “It was so much fun. We bonded with each other well”. She wished that they had more time together but, overall it was fun and amazing! The people she talked to at the event are still good friends with her till this day. She also mentioned, “Everyone there worked hard to earn the money and it paid off, it could have been a bit more planned out with the time and the buses but we knew it was uncontrollable”. Some of her friends in the social club had started to drift apart, and that was their first time hanging out together in a long time and it really brought them together again!

What is the National Honors Society? The National Honors Society is a group of people that contribute donations and fundraisers to the school and its community as a whole. It started in 2009, and is currently being led by our astounding officers; Calicea Clark, Summer Scott, Emmy Russ, Bethany Berry, and Isabella Wood. All of those outstanding people do an amazing job at representing our school through their time here, doing service. Mrs. King likes the National Honors Society because they “reflect the 5 R’s :)” through serving the community of our school. In order to get into the National Honors Society, you would need to be suggested by invitation. An invitation from the National Honors Society offers leadership opportunities to all students. The National Honors Society does an outstanding job at serving the community and our school, along with offering the students of BCECHS and BCC leadership opportunities. The National Honors Society is open to many benefits for students as well as staff with keeping our school safe and serving our grateful community. They have regular meetings during club Fridays, specifically the second block, to talk among each other on how they can improve.
As a student who is fascinated by science and is also a part of the Science Olympiad Club, I decided to write a story on what the high school science teachers think of the club. I have opinions from a biology, earth and environmental ,and a physical science teacher. I will talk about the goals for the Science Olympiad club and what their future can hold.
I talked to Biology Teacher Dr. Dane Fisher about his opinions on the Science Olympiad club. Dr. Fisher used to run the science olympiad club in its previous years and thinks that it's a really great club to have. When I asked Dr. Fisher what he would like to see the club do he said “I hope they don't procrastinate and get a good start on it and do events every other week.” Dr. Fisher enjoyed running the club in previous years and would like to see them compete for our school and win in the future.
Next I talked to Science Teacher Ben Ford. Mr. Ford stated, “It's good to have a place where students can compete in science with other schools.”. He also said “it's a good motivator for students who want to challenge themselves in science fields.” His next statement was “It's good for resumes and for the school for recruiting and credibility.” Mr. Ford thinks it's a good way for Science Teacher Jessica Lewis to get to know the students since she is a new teacher at the school and she also runs the Science Olympiad club. Mr. Ford would like for our school to reach nationals if we have a competitive team.
The final teacher I interviewed was Mrs. Lewis, a physical science teacher at our school who also runs the Science Olympiad Club. Mrs. Lewis expressed, “I love Science Olympiad.” Mrs. Lewis used to be a part of Science Olympiad at North Brunswick High School. When she came over to our school she asked Principal Mrs. Absher if she could run the science olympiad club. She has been coaching from 2016-2022. Mrs. Lewis is hoping for us to get excited about it, go to states, have fun, and win trophies and medals. She also wants to have a varsity team and junior varsity team. She wants to get teams together that will be able to compete against the other high schools.
