Dr. Dane Fisher
“My proudest moment of the school year was last semester when one of my students came back and really loved doing the tutoring that I had requested. He finally did it and I was excited that he was happy doing it, and that it made him successful in the class. For what I learned this year, it would be to be more patient with myself and with other people. Lastly, my summer goal is to make as much cash as possible and to lose weight by doing my two summer jobs.”
Mrs. Shelby Leonard
“Proudest moment of the school year is right now English II is working on an assignment where they get to do real world applications and they're all picking their favorite stuff and seem interested. I’m really proud of them… I did also attend the NCCAT AI conference with Mrs. Askue, and we learned about different products and things that can use AI beneficially. We've been playing with that, so students did get to kind of see some application of it being used in the classroom. Yes, ma'am. Then lastly my summer goal is to not die in Cost Rico. Also to just enjoy Costa Rica and get more students interested to join us for Greece next year.”
Ms. Amanda Stepka
“I learned that I’m not the only one who has a difficult time adjusting to certain changes. Then my summer goal would be to do as little as possible, to be honest. I just want to not do anything and relax instead. Lastly, for my proudest moment, on a personal level, it would be working on not taking so many things to heart and not overreacting. I’ve been working very hard on that. On a professional level though, I do gotta say that I was proud of myself for driving Rho Kappa all the way to Charlotte on an activity bus there and back, with no incidents.”
Mrs. Megan King
“One of my proudest moments this year was when I got to chaperone for the Beta Convention. You guys really do great things every day, but seeing you outside of school in a different context, just brings into light how hard you guys work and have you grown.
As for a lesson I learned this year, as you know we’ve always had honor level classes and I think in the past, my mindset has been that every student who comes here needs to be ready for an honors level class, but I look at that differently now. Every student who comes here deserves honor level classes, and it’s my job to prepare them for that. Our classes might look a little bit different from other schools, but that’s because I’m trying to get you to an honors level by helping you along the way too.
Finally, for my summer goal it would be to try not to think about school. I get really excited about different stuff and sometimes I don’t give myself a mental break. Sometimes I spend the whole summer just coming up with ideas on how I want my classroom to look and what I want to teach, so just finding a balance would be my biggest goal.”
Mrs. Kaitlyn Sanchez
“I just got my final grades back because I started my master's class for my master's degree. I took my first class this semester, and I got my final paper back, which was 32 pages, and I got a 97 on it. Then I finished the class with a 97, so I'm very proud about that. I would also say that I’m very proud of how much Rho Kappa has grown this year and how much the kids have done. I'm also proud that I'm finally finishing my beginning teacher licensure and will be fully licensed. Then I'm proud of Mrs. King for getting teacher of the year.
I think I learned to maximize the amount of time I have in a day. I can definitely be a lollygagger, but I think with the amount of time that I have in the day, I have to use it wisely. Especially being in my third year of teaching, I learned just like the pace of things, such as when to give assignments, when to grade things. Therefore, I feel like I’m less stressed because I learned how to plan things, I know when things are going to happen, and I use my planner. Everybody should use their planner.
My summer goal is to renovate my bedroom. I have an ugly accent wall that I want to fit. I also have two classes that I'm taking this summer, so I want to do well in those… Additionally, I want to be a good host. I have a lot of people coming to visit me this summer. My sisters are coming at different times. One of them is bringing a friend, and then a really good friend of mine who moved to Colorado is coming down.”

Middle: Freshman Kylie Hester
Right: Sophomore Amelia Harrison
Ashlyn: “Honestly, my proudest moment has to be like the little events that we have at this school, because they’re really entertaining and fun. I feel like it's a good experience for people here at school… I pretty much learned to just focus on your schoolwork, because it doesn't get any harder, but it also doesn't get any easier. You have college classes and you have a lot of things to worry about, so stay on top of your work. Lastly, my summer goal is to be able to actually go and hang out with my friends and have fun.”
Kylie: “My proudest moment is probably when I passed my EOC for Math I last semester. I learned that through anything, God will help me through it, no matter what. My summer goal is to tan and make bank.”
Amelia: “My proudest moment was probably joining Rho Kappa because I didn't think I'd be able to do that, and it's just cool. I learned how to better manage my time with those time management skills… My summer goal is to get a job, which I have had two offers for. I want to make money because I'm broke and I need money.”
Sophomore Erica Cook
“My proudest moment of the year was probably when I finally got my computer grade up to a 90, and I learned this year the importance of following a schedule. My summer goal is to finish my internship at a law firm.”
Junior Levi Spencer
“The proudest moment of my school year was probably running for State Beta President. Even though I didn't win, it was very exciting to feel all of my beta members and all my school members support me, both on social media and at the convention. I felt like that was my proudest moment for sure, representing the school at Beta Convention. To be as general as possible, I learned to keep the people that I love and care about the most closest to me and not to worry about all the people that I'm not that close with. It's important to keep close ones close and not to worry about what everyone else does. My summer goal is to make as much money as humanly possible. I am greedy and I love money.”
Sophomore Kai Cicatello
“My Proudest moment this year would probably be getting the Student of The Month Award, because I've never gotten that before at the school. Mrs. Sanchez was the one who gave me the award and her note was really nice. She was like, “your academics have improved so much.” It was just really great. For what I learned this year, I learned people. I learned who and who I don't want to be associated with, how I like to be spoken to, how I don't like to be spoken to, how to read them, and how to please people that I don't necessarily like, but still want to respect… My summer goal is probably to have fun, because last summer I didn't really do much… I'm hoping to do a lot more this year. Have fun and go do stuff, get out there, get a tan, and watch a lot of movies. I want to watch so many horror movies that I haven't had time to watch.”
Sophomore Bella Best
“Passing my sociology class is my proudest moment… Then my summer goal is to get a job, sleep, and swim.”
Left: Graduate Megan Shumaker
Right: Senior Sofia DiGiacomo
Megan: “Getting into UNC Chapel Hill is my proudest moment. I also learned that high school is only a chapter of your life and what happens in high school does not define you and really doesn't matter. It's okay to fail a test. It's okay to fail a class. Just retake it. Your life doesn't end because you got bad grades. Then for my summer goal, I just want to be tan, and this is gonna be my first summer as an adult and I’m not working… So I'm just really excited to do stuff that I want to do and work around my own schedule that I can create without having to do it around school or around a job. Just having a taste of adulthood, whether it’s making a bucket list, doing crafts, going to the beach, or trying new book series, stuff like that, it'll be fun and exciting.”
Sofia: “I think my proudest moment was completely growing from last year, getting really good grades, and connecting with my teachers a lot more. Just growing as a person. That's my proudest moment… I learned that you should just be proud of yourself. Everyone has their own pace and don't ever compare yourself to other people. You should be proud of your friends and of everybody, even if you don't like them. Just be proud of their accomplishments and your time will come. Finally, for my summer goal it will be starting my internship at a defense attorney office. Also, spending time with my family and friends more, because last summer I worked and this summer I'm not working. I was like I need to do my own schedule. So spending time with people and starting my internship are my goals.”
