Program Information:
Students enrolled in any of the Teaching as a Profession courses automatically become members of the BCS Teacher Scholar Academy. Child Development is a CTE elective course also taught within the BCS Teacher Scholar Academy
Teaching as a Profession courses are offered at The COAST and open to all BCS high school students in grades 10, 11, and 12. The minimum GPA requirement to enroll in the course is 2.5.
Students receive honors credit for all three of the Teaching as a Profession courses.
Students who complete Teaching as a Profession courses are eligible for articulated college credit.
Student credit articulation with the UNC System (UNCW, NC A&T, UNC-Charlotte, App State University, and Western Carolina University) and Meredith College, allowing successful program completers to earn six college credits (varies by participating universities).
Student credit articulation with the Community College System, 4 credits for EDU 187: Teaching and Learning for All.
Teaching as a Profession courses are taught at the COAST, however, other BCS campuses (elementary, middle, and high) will serve as locations for classroom observations and field placements.

Classroom Teacher, Instructional Coach, Media Coordinator, School Nutritionist, School Maintenance and Custodial Staff, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Data Manager, Guidance Counselor, School Nurse, School Resource Officer, School Administrator, Instructional Technology Specialist, Teacher Assistant.
