Q) What does your school year look like?
A) We are on a block schedule. Students take four classes each semester, approximately ninety minutes each. In 2nd semester, students enroll in their second set of four classes. Students take a total of eight classes per school year.

A) Our school day is 7:35-2:40.

A) Flex block is scheduled for 35 minutes between 2nd and 3rd block.
Every Monday students attend homeroom during Flex block to
sign up for daily Flex block placements for the current week
receive important information
maintain Major Clarity requirements.
Students use this website every week to sign up for Flex block, logging in with their BCS Gmail account.
Students sign up to attend tutoring sessions, make up missing classwork or tests, clubs, study halls, demonstrations from local experts in vocational fields, and other great opportunities.
Q) How many credits for promotion to the next grade?
A) To be promoted to the next grade level, students need to pass a minimum amount of credits in the previous year(s):
10th grade: 6+ credits
11th grade: 13+ credits
12th grade: 20+ credits
Q) What classes does a typical 9th grader take?
A) If you have not taken a high school class in middle school, your core classes will be:
English I
Math I
World History
Earth/Environmental Science
Health/PE
3 additional electives
Q) What is CCRG and why is my senior placed in these courses?
A) Please see the information on this link to learn more about CCRG (Career and College Ready Graduates) courses. In North Carolina, all seniors with an unweighted GPA between 2.2 and 2.799 at the conclusion of their junior year are required to take these courses unless they meet with the exemption criteria. You can learn more about exemptions for either CCRG English or Math on this document.
Q) Can 9th graders take Spanish I or French I?
A) A few points to consider before choosing Spanish or another foreign language:
Priority is given to upperclassman.
Foreign language classes are NOT required for graduation in North Carolina. Students going directly to the workforce or community college after high school are not required to take foreign language classes.
Most universities require two or more semesters of a foreign language in their applicants.
Q) Is there an orientation for new students?
A) Yes. There is a freshman orientation in August for students to tour the campus and learn about the school's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. New students (10th grade and up) are also encouraged to attend orientation.
Q) What school supplies does my student need?
A) Supply lists are given by individual teachers at Open House. It is recommended that students bring a notebook and pens/pencils. Ask your teachers if specific additional supplies are needed during Open House or the first day of class.
