The SBMS Media Center is always busy, and we like it that way.

Makerspace

Through a grant, Mrs. Gillam was able to purchase materials for our stuents to show their learning. The space includes tools for working with found materials, two sewing machines, Sphero coding bots, a CO2 laser engraver, basic woodworking tools, 2 Makerbot Sketch 3D printers, a green/blue screen setup, K'nex, and Lego. Classes that come in work to problem solve, or build to show a culmination of their learning.

Let's take learning into another dimension...

Students get to experience life-size 3D animals on our Newline screen.

Art + STEM= STEAM

Mrs. Simpson's art classes came into the Makerspace and brought their art to life.

8th grade cityscapes came to life with sounds and music via makey-makey kits.

6th graders created cardboard arcades, and we all loved playing them.

7th grade Social Studies classes learning about the Cold War built various tools that will bring their country to dominance. Some students sewed items for olympic events, coded Sphero Bot spies, built Lego or K'nex monuments and much more.

Students have also 3D printed windmill blades, made cards that light up with closed circuits, and so much more.

In November, libraries around the world get to celebrate International Games Month. SBMS students were able to participate in this event with games time. Teachers brought their classes to play games together. Problem solving, critical thinking, communicating, and fun were all allowed. The only thing not allowed...electronics!
