Sorry for the extreme delay. We had technical difficulties with the site upload.
For girls who made the team, the parent meeting is Monday, June 2nd at 6pm in the cafeteria.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why a team of 12?
A: Many of our short sleeve uniform tops are stained, discolored, or have come apart at the seams. Because of this, we can safely say that there will be 12 wearable uniforms for our cheerleaders.
Q: Why is tumbling not part of the tryouts?
A: We do not compete in a tumbling category, and the BCS rules on tumbling are very strict, leaving little room for tumbling.
Q: How do we know that others in the tryout room did not cause detriment to my score?
A: The judges are looking for sideline game-day SKILLS, not pure knowledge of the material. For example, points for vocals come from if the candidate is using their diaphragm, not singing (drawing out) the words, projecting their voice, and using a natural tone. Motions are judged on sharpness, execution, and accuracy. How the candidates use spirit, facials, and enthusiasm throughout the entire tryout is also a factor. Just because a judge is not looking directly at you does not mean they are not scoring you.
Q: What else goes into the score?
A: Teacher recommendations are 50% of the cheerleader's score. Our cheerleaders represent SBMS
inside and outside of school. Cheerleaders are student athletes; the student aspect always comes first. Behavior, discipline, respect, honesty, work ethic, and attendance are all important parts of being a successful student athlete.
Q. Will there be more tryouts?
A: Depending on the uniform situation, we may be able to hold tryouts for the winter basketball season. However, if there are winter tryouts, those added to the team will most likely not be part of our competition team.
We are beyond impressed with the passion that all the girls showed at tryouts. The judges enjoyed seeing so many young ladies with a passion for the sport.
For candidates who make the team:
Parent meeting: Monday, June 2nd 6pm
Fundraiser: After meeting and before camp
Camp: July 30- August 1
Required Practices begin: August 11, 2025
Dress code for May 29 is the following:
Plain white or light-color t-shirt
Plain black or dark-color shorts
Athletic or cheer shoes.
Hair must be secured away from the face.
NO jewelry of any kind.
*Any candidate who shows up on the 29th with clothing, or accessories that may convey their participation on any cheer, dance, gymnastics, baton, or music will be required to change. If the candidate cannot change, they will not be permitted to tryout.
Scoring breakdown:
50%- Teacher recommendations, academic performance, attendance, and behavior record.
50%- Judges' Scoring (Up to 10% of this may come from coach feedback due to performance and behavior on day 1 of tryouts)
Tryouts are conducted as fairly as possible. Judges’ rating on performance will be used to score the candidates.
Judges’ decisions are final, and the scores will NOT be open for inspection.
The number of girls to be on the team is not decided, but will be no more than 12.
No member of the team has been pre-selected.
Please be advised, special consideration will not be given to those who have previously cheered at SBMS or any other school.
Even though experience may help the candidate do a better job, it will not matter to the judges, since they will not know how many years of cheer, dance, music, baton, or gymnastics the candidate has received.
