  1. How do you enroll in the online option and what is the timeline?
    To notify the district of your commitment to online learning, please complete the commitment survey sent on August 3, 2020. You can access that survey by clicking here. The deadline to complete this commitment to online learning is Friday, August 14th.

  2. What is the official starting date for the school year and when does the first semester end.
    The official first day of school for students is Monday, September 14, 2020. This will be the first day whether we start online or face-to-face. The last day of the first semester is January 28, 2021.

  3. What happens if a student or staff member tests positive?
    If a student or staff member tests positive, the district will be notified by the Department of Health. The Department of Health will provide the district with a course of action. Additionally, the Department of Health would reach out, if appropriate, to others with whom the individual may have come in contact. The Department of Health would determine if individuals needed to be quarantined.

  4. What is the process for students or staff to appeal wearing a face mask?
    On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, Governor DeWine announced a statewide order that requires children from Kindergarten to 12th grade to wear a mask at school. The order provides the following exemptions:
    --Children under 2 years old
    --Any child unable to remove the face covering without assistance
    --A child with a significant behavioral/psychological issue undergoing treatment that is exacerbated specifically by
    the use of a facial covering (e.g.severe anxiety or a tactile aversion)
    --A child living with severe autism or with extreme development delay who may become agitated or anxious wearing
    a mask
    --A child with a facial deformity that causes airway obstruction
    The order notes that asthma, allergies and sinus infections do not warrant exceptions from wearing a mask. Additionally, all staff members must wear masks. The district will be publishing an appeal process for children who meet one of the exemptions listed above.

  5. If I choose the face-to-face option, am I able to switch to the online option before the end of the first semester?
    This will be decided on a case by case basis. Considerations, such as staffing and enrollment, could impact these situations.

  6. Will extracurricular opportunities be offered?
    This will depend on current health trends. If it is safe, the district will continue to offer as many extracurriculars as possible. However, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. The district will cease to offer extracurriculars if it is unsafe.

  7. How will you distinguish between seasonal allergies, and Covid?
    If a student or staff member show symptoms consistent with Covid, protocols for possible Covid exposure will be in place.

  8. How will specials like music, physical education and art be handled?
    The district is committed to provided our students as many options as possible to develop the whole child. We are awaiting guidance from the state and professional organizations regarding how to safely offer these hands-on classes, if possible.

  9. Will I be placed in a class with a third party curriculum or will I be placed in a class with the Brunswick Curriculum taught by Brunswick Teachers?
    The default placement will be to place our students in a class with the Brunswick Curriculum taught by Brunswick Teachers. We will only place students in a third party curriculum if there is a unique circumstance, such as an inability by the district to offer a specific course.

  10. When will the district decide if the school year starts online or face-to-face?
    The district realizes the importance of communicating the decision to start online or face-to-face to our family members and staff as soon as possible so that everyone can make appropriate plans. The safety of our students and staff are our first priority and our decision regarding how we will start school will be entirely driven by safety concerns.
