MATHCOUNTS

Students that are enrolled in grades 6-8 in all types of schools—public, private, charter, virtual and home schools—are eligible to participate in the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series. The competition covers a wide range of math topics but also requires students to quickly arrive at the answer apply patterned related strategies developed through lots of practice.

A competition is comprised of 4 rounds - Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round.

Sprint Round: 30 questions in 40 minutes; students work individually; no calculators permitted
Target Round: 4 pairs of questions; 6 minutes per pair; students work individually; calculators are permitted
Team Round: 10 questions in 20 minutes; 4 team members work together; calculators are permitted
Countdown Round (Unofficial): Fast-paced round where students battle head-to-head tournament style

MATHCOUNTS MEETING DAYS:

Sixth grade students at NWR are invited by their math teacher. The max is 20 students in good academic standing, exhibiting the HAWKS way each day. Meetings will be in Ms. Huffman's room after school.
