Elevating Math Competition
Competition Date: March 8, 2024
Location: BCS Central Office
Buncombe County Schools has created a math competition for 4th through 6th grade students that is modeled after MATHCOUNTS. This is a time to compete at doing challenging math problems.
The competition is comprised of 3 rounds - Sprint, Target, and Team Round.
Sprint Round: 15 questions in 30 minutes; students work individually; no calculators permitted
Target Round: 3 pairs of questions; 6 minutes per pair; students work individually; calculators are permitted
Team Round: 10 questions in 20 minutes; 4 team members work together; calculators are permitted
NWR Elevating Math Team:
North Windy Ridge selects a team of 5th graders and a team of 6th graders. Each team will consist of 8 students. There will be no after school practice that accampanies this competition.
