Sarah Sachs began teaching second grade in Durham, NC at an Arts and Humanities Magnet School in 1996. While working at the Club Boulevard Arts and Humanities Magnet School, she worked closely with the UNC-Chapel Hill education department, hosting student teachers and collaborating with several university professors. The school was quite diverse, and offered her students a literature rich environment in which students were encouraged to take risks and collaborate. Sarah spent a total of six years teaching at Club, five years teaching second grade as well as one year teaching a second/third grade multi-age class.
After receiving a Masters’ Degree in Reading from Appalachian State University and teaching at Club Boulevard for six years, Sarah decided it was time to move back home to New York. She was hired to teach third grade at PRES by Eric Byrne in 2004. Sarah was drawn to PRES because of the philosophy of the school and its knowledgeable and passionate teachers
Sarah spent her first 12 years at PRES teaching third grade. She absolutely loved the curriculum and worked on the district math committee for all 12 years. She built strong relationships with her students and their families, and has enjoyed watching her former Pound Ridge students grow and mature, graduate from college and even get married!
In 2016 Sarah decided to try a new experience and asked to teach kindergarten. She wanted to learn the kindergarten curriculum and allow children to work and learn via play. She greatly enjoyed learning about early childhood development and watching her students’ excitement as they began to read and write.
In 2020 Sarah returned to teaching third grade and has been enjoying diving into new curriculum. One special treat was having some of her precious kinders again as third graders!
Sarah loves spending time at PRES, her home away from home. The relationships she has built with her colleagues as well as within the community have shaped who she is today. When not at work, Sarah enjoys being with her husband, Peter, their twin daughters, Alice and Charlotte, and their goldendoodle, Watson. She and her family enjoy cooking, hiking, being outside, visiting friends and family, and vacationing in Maine.
Mrs. Guglielmo, often called “Mrs. G.,” is a third grade teacher who has taught at PRES since 2004, where she’s also had the privilege of teaching fourth and fifth grade. She loves to hear from and about former students, many of whom have already graduated college and joined the workforce!
Mrs. G adores teaching at PRES, and she’s truly happy to call it her home away from home thanks to the incredible children, friends and families she’s come to know. She believes there is no greater joy - or more important responsibility - than furthering a child’s intellectual, creative and social-emotional development. Each year, she strives to establish a caring classroom environment of trust and learning as well as one that embraces perseverance, risk-taking, fun and laughter.
She lives in Fairfield, Connecticut, with her husband, Tom, and daughter, Lauren. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, reading, listening to audiobooks and music, and cuddling with her dog, Kenzie, and cat, Lucky. She also likes to eat (not cook) delicious meals, walk and lounge on the beach, go to tag sales and watch movies. Her favorite colors are turquoise and violet, and she thinks Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston were the greatest singers of all time.
She holds a BA in Journalism from Michigan State University as well as an MS in Elementary Education from Hunter College.
