Hello and welcome to second grade! I am Laurianne Lugo-Hart, but my students call me Mrs. Hart. I live in Brewster with my husband, 2 sons (both in college), a daughter in high school, and two dogs (a bichon frise mix and a labradoodle). I love traveling and spending time with my friends and family. I received my bachelor's degree from The State University of New York at Albany with a double major in English and African American History, and a minor in Business. Prior to entering the world of education I worked in finance and insurance, so I am a career changer. School was difficult for me as a child, so I never imagined myself working in education. When a teacher friend of mine suggested that I try becoming a teacher, I thought she was crazy. Yet, I was intrigued. She would often tell me stories about her teaching experiences that were both heartwarming and rewarding for her. I wanted to experience that. Long story short, I took her suggestion. I got my master’s degree in Elementary Education from Fordham University, began teaching in the Bedford Central School District in 1997, and never looked back. I taught at Bedford Village Elementary School and PRES for many years. Teaching can be quite challenging, working with children that have many different individual needs. I strive to meet those needs each and every day. There are some things that I find that are the same with our young students. They want to feel like they belong. They want to feel welcomed, accepted, and treated with kindness. They are curious about the world around them and want to learn. They want to be able to take risks without fear of judgment. They also want to feel like they are contributing to their classroom community. It is my goal every year to create an environment that encourages these feelings, fosters both social and academic growth, and keeps my students wanting to come back. I love what I do and it is extremely rewarding!
Mrs. Crupi is a second grade teacher who has taught at PRES since 2003, where she’s also had the privilege of teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade, as well as a tiered support teacher K-5. Becoming a teacher was a dream for her since she was a child, when she would conduct lessons for the neighborhood children on her front lawn in Ardsley, NY. Fast forward to college, where she received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Fordham University, which is also where she met her husband, Angelo.
Mrs. Crupi was hired for a leave replacement role at BVES while finishing up her master’s at Fordham. The following year she took another leave replacement role at PRES and as they say, the rest was history. Since then, Pound Ridge Elementary school has been her home away from home. Over the years Mrs. Crupi has enjoyed nothing more than teaching the children at PRES, fostering strong relationships with her students, their families, and her colleagues. She believes it is both a privilege and honor to be a teacher and partner with families to cultivate their child’s intellectual curiosity, creativity, and social-emotional well being. Every year she strives to create both a physical and emotional environment so her students can look forward to going to school each day where they will take risks, work hard, and have fun learning together!
Mrs. Crupi is not only a wife, but a mother as well. She adores her son, Attilio, and her daughter, Mia. She also has a rescue dog named Cookie who rounds out the family. When she isn’t teaching or running around after her children and their activities, Mrs. Crupi loves to spend time with her family cooking, gardening, painting, decorating her home (inside and out), and going for walks. Mrs. Crupi loves listening to music and audiobooks, and you will often find her playing music in class to enjoy with her students. Her door is always open and once you are a part of the Crupi Family, you are always a Crupi!
