School Community Building & Outreach

CORE Connections

Advisor: Ms. Elwood & Ms. Binger

Meet Day TBD, D143

At FLHS, we advocate for a strong sense of connection and community within a positive and supportive school environment. We work hard to inspire and engage each other in all facets of education – academic, community, social/emotional and character. CORE club (Community of Respect for Everyone) raises awareness and establishes connections that broaden our personal lens. We support a school environment that cultivates connections for all members of the Fox Lane High School Community.

Hillside Student Activities

Advisor: Ms. Browne & Ms. White

Thursdays, Hillside Room 7

The purpose of the club is to provide Hillside students with an opportunity to act as leaders and colleagues within a community which promotes inclusion, pursues social/emotional well-being, and values caring for others. We meet weekly to plan activities that foster school spirit, belonging, and service to others.

Hand in Hand

Advisor: Ms. Katzenberger

Every other Tuesday, D149

HIHC promotes friendships with ALL at Fox Lane. During our club time, we hang out with our peers that are on the autism spectrum to help them develop their social skills. In turn, they teach us how to fully promote inclusion in our school and how to be kinder towards each other.

Puente: Blurring the Lines

Advisor: Ms. Sanchez & Ms. Elwood

Mondays and Thursdays, FLMS South House 210

Puente has a significant impact in extending the English-speaking day and promoting school membership for ELLs after 2:20. Puente tutors assist FLMS ESOL students with their homework and bridge the gap between the Spanish and English-speaking student communities. The purpose of the club is to not only academically support our ESOL students, but also to bridge the natural divide that occurs when there is a language barrier to build cross-cultural friendships. Continued practice with native speakers will positively impact the students’ comfort and confidence in speaking their non-native languages. As the population of emergent bilingual students at Fox Lane continues to grow, it is only fitting that Puente should establish itself and truly make sure that no student is left behind. Through Puente, language would act as a connection between the students, rather than a divide!

Youth to Youth

Advisor: Mrs. Alvarado

Wednesdays, A113

The goal of Youth 2 Youth is for students to have meaningful discussions, promote prevention awareness activities, create and implement their own ideas on how to create positive change. Youth 2 Youth brings together a common bond of living alcohol, tobacco and drug free and allows club members to serve as role models to their peers and younger students. When you attend meetings, we discuss how to educate the FL community on how alcohol and substance misuse impacts youth and their families. We create activities to implement monthly with our students. Examples for students to get involved in are fundraiser's, planning for school wide assemblies, youth leadership opportunities with Middle School students (i.e. Escape the Vape), and planning for School wide events (i.e. PE events).
